Summary: 2 Stars

First of all, in the forward, the author tells us that she is not a professional chef or had professional training and encourages you that if she can do it you can too...however, on the back cover of the book at the bottom we find that she has some kind of degree in food preparation as well as her own culinary school and a few other credentials in the culinary world. She is obviously no beginner and she has certainly been exposed to food preparation and presentation - so I forewarn you now that this book is not for the novice! Some of the recipes are long and complicated and most of them require gourmet ingredients that not only would I not know where to buy them, I don't even know what they are let alone have them stocked in my kitchen on any given day! The author just assumes that everyone is going to to know what all these exotic items are. That is my biggest complaint with this book, the fact that I can't just open a page and "give it a go" because there are ingredients I have never heard of. Also, these are definitley not "family friendly" recipes due to the exotic flair - they are definitely meant for the adult dinner party, etc. My second complaint is the lack of pictures. The whole premise behind this book is how impressive and unique these stacks are, but there are only pictures every few pages. I want to SEE how each one looks not just read about how to do it. This book just drops the ball in that category. To be fair though and not completely bash this book, she does provide detailed information how to make or purchase the equipment to prepare the stacks along with a nice long list of different foods in many diffrent categories to mix and match and make your own. Some of the recipes do sound really good and they are pretty cool looking (from the few pictures they provide anyway!), but as I stated above, most of them are rather exotic.
