Book Reviews of Stalin's Ghost: An Arkady Renko NovelBook Review: Disappointed Arkady fan Summary: 1 Stars
Having read most of his earlier books (altho disappointed at the previous one set in Chernobyl), I picked this book up as soon as I saw it in the bookstore. That's something I won't do again with another of his books. He's always been a bit of a "slow" writer, but this book lacks cohesion in storyline and meanders along randomly (and annoyingly) at times. More focus please! My advice - don't bother.
Book Review: Tortured country Summary: 5 Stars
Martin Cruz Smith does his research and convincingly writes about the land now called Russia. A land tortured by its past of wars, alcoholism, genocide, and the memory of Stalin. This backdrop is demonstrated by the believable characters in the book and a town called Tver which could be any one of the hundreds of towns in that vast country.
Book Review: Arkady Fan Summary: 4 Stars
I'm an Arkady fan. This one was pretty good but not as good as some of the others in the series- a little less action.
Book Review: Stalin's Ghost Summary: 2 Stars
This was a disappointing book, loosely organized, lacking in wit and spirit. The earlier Renko books were MUCH better.
Book Review: Another good Russian story Summary: 5 Stars
M Smith has keep the character first intoduced in Gorky to a new height. He has captured the cold of Russia anew.
