Book Reviews of Star Wars: A Pop-Up Guide to the GalaxyBook Review: Good idea..poor effort Summary: 1 Stars
I am baffled there are this many positive reviews for this product. Either you are allowing your passion for Star Wars blind you or you have placed your book in a special quiet place and look at it from afar. I am only comforted by the fact my mother bought this book for my son, or I would be demanding my money back.
My mother saw this online will searching for another Star Wars product and my son and I were both excited when it came. Although he is only four, he loves Star Wars and we use it as a way to learn about other things. This book fell apart the first time we used it. The middle designs in particular are hard to compact, making the book impossible to put away or even get to other pages. The lightsabers go on and off when they want to...or maybe when you use the force.
Listen, I'm an educated man with a calm mind and a passion for Lucas products. I have actually thrown this book away because I was so tired of trying to make something poorly designed cherished just because it is a Star Wars Product. I find it hard to believe of the hundreds of reviews there are no other complaints.
Save your money and buy other products with the same information.
Book Review: Fun book! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for my husband as a Christmas present when it first came out, and when we moved it was put into a box with other collectible/display items and stuck into a closet for another day. Doing some Spring cleaning today with my now four-year-old Star Wars-loving son, we came upon it and couldn't resist sitting down for a read. It was so much fun to see his face and hear his exclamations on every single page. When we got to the last page, where you can glimpse Anakin's burned face behind the Darth Vader helmet, I thought we'd hit the pinnacle of enjoyment for my son... and then I popped open the smaller pages to either side of the helmet and Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker emerged holding light-up lightsabers. He slowly reached out a finger to touch one, as if he couldn't believe his eyes. It was a really great moment. I know we will be re-reading this special book for years. It is full of beautiful detail and hidden surprises, and if you treat it gently (as you should any pop-up book... most of the ones we own that are actually aimed at small children are torn apart) it will last for a long time.
Book Review: A Pop-Up Book too fragile for kids Summary: 5 Stars
This book was recommended by Whitney Matheson at Pop Candy - and she was right! It is fun and informative, but the most amazing thing is the crazy, unexpected pop-ups.
The technology of the pop-up has changed drastically since the first Star Wars movie came out. This book has wonderful full pop-ups of places and things from all the movies -- but even more impressive are the pop-ups within the pop-ups -- yowza! Sadly, Star Wars: A Pop-Up Guide to the Galaxy is not a book for kids, because the pop-ups are so intricate and delicate. It is hard to re-close each page. Because some pop-ups have their own pop-ups, the book should be opened and closed by an adult so it will stay intact. (and even this can be tricky without care)
The art is interesting, but not quite the realistic style I think of for Star Wars. Sometimes it takes a little imagination to see who is who. As a trivia buff, I loved the little details about the characters and places from these beloved films. I enjoyed this book, and it makes a great gift for a Star Wars fan with a short attention span.
Book Review: A great pick for Star Wars addicted kids AND dads!! Summary: 5 Stars
After spending months on my son's wish list, he finally received it for his 4th birthday in October. My son LOVES the graphics and the the clever design. He's young, but having a Star Wars-centric dad with decade old collectibles, he understands how to handle things gently. The book is made pretty sturdy and the pages/pop ups have yet to been ripped or destroyed. The best part is that when you close the book, the pop-ups actually CLOSE with it. I cannot begin to explain my frustration with kids books (I'm talking to you Baby Einstein) with pop up pages that won't close back without force once opened! This book is NOT one of them. And the best part is the price! Only twenty bucks and some change for such a great book is a killer deal. Definitely saw it at a pricey bookstore for $42. Save the money and get it on Amazon.
No doubt your Star Wars fan of any age will really enjoy this book. Both my boys, 4 and 36 love it!
Book Review: The best classic saga tie-in of the 30th anniversary year. Summary: 5 Stars
This book is a strange and wonderful surprise. Easily the best Star Wars classic sage tie-in of the 30th anniversary year, 2007. This is a unique labour of love to be sure, and perhaps the most inspiring and creative piece about the Holy Trilogy that I have ever seen in a book form. In fact, I would even go so far as to say perhaps the best book that I have ever read. Seroiusly, I read this book with my 4-year old son together, and we savoured every page, every fold-out, and every flap. If you do read this book with a child, read it slowly and enjoy the one-of-a-kind surprises that are waiting behind every handcrafted door. For collectors, I would buy an extra copy or two beacause this is also a beautiful collector's item. Save one for later, you never know when you might want an extra copy as an incredibly special gift. I expect to be reading this book many, many more times.
