Book Reviews of Step on a CrackBook Review: Boring and Irritating! Summary: 2 Stars
This was a very tough book to get through. The first 1/3 of the book was interesting and seemed promising, and then...it just got so awful.
There was no plot thickening except at the very beginning and the very end of the book (complete with plot holes!). Throughout the rest of the book, was just a bunch of nonsense to show how bad the bad guys really were and how good the good guys were. At least throw in a couple more plot twists while you're at it.
The personal side of the story with the 10 kids and the sick wife was sweet at first, but it was so excessive and sugary it became annoying.
The crime is solved mostly by accident. I was hoping SOMEONE (FBI, NYPD, anybody!) would actually use their noggin and make some connections through deductive reasoning, rather than continuing to rely on failed hostage negotiations.
Book Review: forced to read Summary: 4 Stars
I was forced to read this book for a summer reading project. the size of the book was daunting and i procrastinated on reading it. when i finally got around to it and opened the book i could not put it down. there are no really slow parts in the book everytime it starts to get boring the lead hijacker does something else to pull you to the edge of your seat. looking at all the poor detective has to deal with makes you feel sorry for him, but no matter how bad things get he always stays on top of the hostage situation. this book is great if you are looking for a thriller that also makes you think.
Book Review: Unable to suspend disbelief Summary: 1 Stars
This read like a late book review completed to avoid an "Incomplete" in a compulsory English class; there must have been a deadline from the publisher to keep the advance. I found the Women's Murder Club mysteries entertaining, but this was popular writing for hire -- a reputation for sale to an aspiring co-writer. The plot reminded me of the incredibly weak "Armageddon" movie from 1998 with Bruce Willis, because I was also unable to suspend disbelief for that project; throughout the book, I reacted with "Come On!" Maybe it's time for me to give up on Patterson.
Book Review: Awful! Summary: 1 Stars
I picked this book from the bookshelf of an apartment we were renting in Europe because it was the only one in English and I was out of reading material.
What dreck! People actually read this kind of stuff and consider it to be good writing? Short chapters and very simplistic writing - perhaps sixth-grade level.
In my future travels, I will throw an extra book or two into my luggage so I am never this desperate again...
Book Review: Best Patterson Yet! Summary: 5 Stars
This is probably the fifth Patterson book I've read since I discovered him at JFK Airport on my way to Cancun. He's continuously engrossing and captivating in his tales and through the personalities of the characters he creates. In "Step on a Crack", though, I feel he's mastered his skills. This is by far my favorite James Patterson book yet and cannot wait to read "Run While you Can" when it's released in Feb.
