Book Review: Teaches a little "Deer Thinking" along the way

Ok, quick story. My buddy, his dad (aka The Deer Magnet) and I find ourselves on a road about 2 miles long in some logging country we hunt yearly. At the end of the road we find one set of tracks. The Deer Magnet says they are from a decent sized buck. My buddy heads up the ridge to further scout and take a set til dark. I sit at the dead end watching the road. The Deer Magnet makes his way down the road but beforehand tells me to "keep an eye open, that buck could be crossing soon. Hell, this road is long enough that buck could cross anywheres". Nighttime comes, we had back to camp. The next day it's just my buddy and I out on the same road. We decide to walk in to the area this time. Upon walking, we see the Deer Magnets footsteps in the snow from the night before. Not even six inches from his bootprint is the only other set of deer tracks on this entire road. If nighttime hunting were allowed, that's one dead deer.

Coincidence and a little luck; Probably. But I know of his record in this country and I believe it's his ability to "think like a deer". I didn't take up hunting until my mid 20's with not much success in the last 10 years. This book has helped me better understand what I'm doing both right and wrong and to better "think like a deer". The pictures were great and Mr Alsheimer's passion for the outdoors really shines through.

I had a pre-conceived notion I wasn't going to enjoy this book and boy was I wrong. I wish I would have found sooner. My real regret is that I have to wait until next November.
