Book Reviews of Street Love (Triple Crown Publications Presents)Book Review: Good To The Last Letter Summary: 5 Stars
Street Love is an anthology laced with heart-tugging and money-making stories. After The Storm by Keisha Ervin, delves into the lives of Mo and Quan, a couple who loved each other so much it hurt. Full of tricking and treating, the two faced infidelity and lies that would either destroy their relationship or enhance their unique love for each other.
Allure of the Game by Danielle Santiago provided a glance into the world of Arnessa; a weight, moving sister who appeared indestructible. Arnessa was responsible for caring for her little sister, Cenise, due to their mother abandoning them. Arnessa used the street game to survive and was willing to pay at all cost to make sure her sister was raised well. Other hustlers had other things in mind and their plans included Cenise. Arnessa made it her mission to seek and destroy the haters attempting to consume her sister's life but would the gravitational pull of the game entice Cenise into cooperating?
Phelix Mitchell was a snitch in The Fink by Quentin Carter. It was not a secret. Everybody witnessed it in the courtroom when Phelix ratted on his best friend for a reduced sentence. Only doing three of twenty-five years, life on the outside was difficult to say the least. With everybody in the hood being up on his antic, Phelix was paranoid with just cause. He felt the stares and grimaces of those who no longer trusted him. After all, he used to be up on his game but now the tables were turned and street life turned him into a sell-out. It was not until he came face-to-face with his best friend's mother that things were put into perspective. Would it be too late to right his wrongs?
T. Styles `Cold As Ice' is a tale of a good-girl-gone-bad, in a sense. Pepper Thomas hated her neighborhood. Not just the physical surroundings but the hustlers and players that lined the streets made her sick. Pepper's mother worked three jobs in an attempt to get them out of the area but when she lost one of her jobs, their move seemed more like a pipe dream. Just as hope started to dwindle, Pepper's dreams resurfaced when her neighbor and drug dealer's, Ice, house was robbed and she swiped a VCR tape they dropped in the act. Would this
evidence turn her dreams of relocating into reality? Or would Pepper get caught up in a game where she did not know the rules?
B-More Love by Leo Sullivan is reminiscent of a classic love story with an urban vibe. Ashley was a high school senior with a bright future ahead of her. Jamal was a young hustler doing his thing in the streets to make ends meet. Ashley despised young men of his nature. Jamal liked Ashley and began to pursue her. Even though Ashley was hesitant, when her mother got sick, Jamal was there. She refused his assistance but when her mother's care called for long money, Jamal was more than willing to absorb the cost. When the streets called Jamal and the bills were piling up, would Jamal and Ashley be able to survive as a couple? Or would either of them survive at all?
Street Love is a well put together anthology of some of urban fiction's most sought after authors. The stories are teasers for upcoming novels and Street Love is a great vehicle for them. All of the stories were well-written and dramatic. I did not want them to end! I will be picking up each of the novels when they drop. Fans of Triple Crown Publications will not be disappointed.
