Not much to say except that this book is excellent and it's difficult to think of any way that it could be made better. Anybody with any kind of interest in resistance training with weights can only benefit from this book; it's simply brilliant!
It's a very well organised book with chapters split according to major muscle groups and the exercises that work them. Large, detailed anatomical artwork on every page shows you exactly what happens to every muscle; it's like having an X-ray of every exercise being performed. The best book I've ever found for putting together a balanced weight training regime.
Whether you're a serious lifter, athlete, gym user, sportsperson, health professional or complete beginner about to hit the gym for the first time, do yourself a favour and buy this book - you certainly won't regret it!!!
Book Review: ==Lots of Strengths== Summary: 5 Stars
With over 450,000 copies sold, this book is arguably the best book of its kind. What's it useful for? Mainly to help the reader (from the weekend athlete to the athletic trainer to the professional bodybuilder) figure out what exercises work what muscles.
It's neatly divided up into sections (arms, shoulders, chest, back, etc.), so all you really have to do is flip to one of these sections and it will have detailed pictures of various exercises and exactly which muscles are involved.
A great reference to keep have around, I give it five stars easy. Readers who lift weights regularly might also be interested Treat Your Own Rotator Cuff to avoid shoulder problems a lot of lifters eventually get.
Book Review: Great book for helping you understand what to do for weight lifting. Summary: 5 Stars
I started lifting weights about 2 years ago, focusing on different muscle groups. Even within specific groups like chest and arms, I found I could lift 100 lbs and other I struggled with only 50 lbs. This book shows you each specific muscle in a Gray's Anatomy manner and what movement and muscle to use to strengthen.
One of the most helpful books for someone who wants to be their own trainer. I found out about this book from a fellow in the locker room who was reading it right before a workout. I might not end up Mr. Universe, but in the fight against gravity, this book and illustrations and information are perfect.
After reading this I can say, the only dumbbell in my workouts are the ones I lift. I highly recommend this to everyone, beginner, immediate, men and women.
Book Review: STRENGTH TRAINING Summary: 5 Stars
This book is fantastic. I'm a former pro triathlete and I always get people asking me about working out and fitness and I always recommend this book. The illustrations are amazing, the book demonstrates exactly what muscules each excersise uses, and its shows the correct way of doing the motion and the proper use of equitment. The book points out how easily injuries can happen and how not to do excersises. Every day I see people working out incorrectly and getting so little out of their work out, they just strain and sweat for nothing, they are lucky if this is the only outcome and they dont actually hurt themselves. This book is not that expensive and it's value for working out far outpaces the expense of the book itself. I could not recommend this book more, it is by far my favorite work out guide.
Book Review: Excellent reference book!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This is an excellent book if you're not sure exactly which muscles are utilized during each exercise or if you're unsure which muscles are utilized with different grips. It is also a great book if you need new exercise ideas. The book is very well organized and is even color-coded so that you know how many different muscle groups are worked during the respective exercises. The book not only has pictures of how to perform the exercises but also describes what NOT to do and what injuries could occur if performed this way. Also, the pictures in the book are very high quality.
I highly recommend this book to anyone that's serious about their workouts but needs some ideas to add a little variety or if you're simply trying to educate yourself to become more effective in the gym.
