Book Reviews of Sundays at Tiffany's

Book Review: Poorly Written and Forgettable
Summary: 1 Stars

I am going to bypass the summary and go straight to what I thought of it.

I enjoyed Sam's Letters to Jennifer and Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas so I was excited to see another romantic drama by James Patterson. Patterson's use of a co-author worried me (it leads me to believe the co-author wrote the entire manuscript) however, I decided to give it a shot when I saw it on the library shelves.

The main character, Jane, is hard to like. She makes bad choices and lacks a backbone, which makes her aggravating as a character. Her interactions with her actor boyfriend, Hugh, are infuriating because I never felt the connection was real and hardly believable that she would keep going back to him. She never fully realizes herself and doesn't change throughout the novel, although she makes choices at the end that make you say, "finally." All the characters were so one-dimensional, it makes me think this book was plotted in one afternoon and finished three days later.

The writing is atrocious. Full of cliches and lack of interesting vocabulary, I was able to skim tens of pages without missing anything particularly special. The use of interior monologue was overdone at points. Overall, I did not enjoy this book but finished it, hoping it would get better.

It is what it is. If you're looking for a quick, no-thoughts-required read and willing to overlook bad writing and logical discrepencies, this may be the book for you. I, on the other hand, am thrilled I rented it from the library instead of shelling out my money for this piece of drivel.

Summary of Sundays at Tiffany's

As a little girl, Jane has no one. Her mother, the powerful head of a Broadway theater company, has no time for her. She does have one friend-a handsome, comforting, funny man named Michael-but only she can see him.

Years later, Jane is in her thirties and just as alone as ever. Then she meets Michael again-as handsome, smart and perfect as she remembers him to be. But not even Michael knows the reason they've really been reunited.

SUNDAYS AT TIFFANY'S is a love story with an irresistible twist, a novel about the child inside all of us-and the boundary-crossing power of love.
