Book Review: It just doesn't work...
Summary: 1 Stars

There are so many things about this story that just don't work. Like many other reviewers have said, there is so much of this story that is typical of a love story and then there is so much that is so complex that at the end, it still leaves a reader wondering. Aside from this, it almost feels like the authors are rushing to end this story towards the end. Rather than give a well explained ending, allowing the reader to understand where this whole "imaginary friend" deal is going, they hurry to end the story. And to make matters worse, they assure the reader that it's a happy ending, even though Jane's mother tells her she did love her while on her deathbed, and Michael has a heart attack...really? Is this happy?
I was just not too content reading this book. It left me with unanswered questions and the feeling that I missed something. Definitely not what I was looking for when I read what the basis of this book was about. Oh well, maybe next time.

Book Review: Good premise, doesn't deliver
Summary: 1 Stars

The cover blurb sounded promising, it's a James Patterson - or is it? Who is this Gabrielle Charbonett? - and so I was lured in. I admit, I stayed up til 2:00 a.m. "reading it" last night... although the truth is, I mostly skimmed the first sentence of every paragraph, all the while thinking "Really? This was published? It reads like a high school English writing class assignment." It's gimmicky, but the promise of the gimmick isn't fulfilled very well. Jane is likeable, and the two characters in the opening are charming, but the plot is ridiculous (and not the gimmicky part - the way it's written). The writing is downright cheesy at times. Thank god the chapters - the one thing that makes this believable as a work of James Patterson - are short. UGH. Don't read this unless you're looking for a primer on what a bad novel looks like. I'm going to have to be very careful with future JP novels... maybe I'll become a better library patron.

Book Review: This one just proves that we'll read anything....if....
Summary: 1 Stars

... James Patterson's name is on it. Sweet and touching in the beginning, this one takes a "flyer" that is 'way outside the realm of even fanciful fantasy. What a crashing disappointment! What's worse, it makes me think that James and his friend, Gabrielle, are really "funning" with us to find out just how much drivel we will lap up before yelling, "Enough"! By gosh, we're tried and true fans out here, and we've loyally bought book after book, through good and bad; waited out your slumps and celebrated your returns to the groove we love so well. And, we were ready for something different - we think it's okay when you deviate from your norm. We liked Suzanne's Diary and Sam's Letters - but what on earth were you thinking with this one? This one is a waste of time and money, unfortunately. I wish I'd saved my money and pre-ordered your next book. Yeah, once a fan, always a fan, no matter what.

Book Review: Weird premise that doesn't work
Summary: 2 Stars

James Patterson has tried centering a whole novel around a gimic that doesn't work...at least not for me. I enjoyed the beginning of the novel when Jane is a young girl. Very believeable and touching. I also enjoyed the character of Jane as an adult. Patterson's heroine is extremely likeable. And, actually, I truly liked the hero, Michael, as well. The problem for me isn't the characters of Jane and Michael, per se, as much as how childish the gimic of their relationship becomes half-way through. I can usually suspend my disbelief pretty well as a reader, but this just didn't work for me. Midway through, I started to feel I was reading a pre-teen paranormal novel. I was internally rolling my eyes during the last half of the book. I love a love story, but this one just left me disappointed. My husband asked me what I thought after I closed the book, and all I could answer was, "Stupid."

Book Review: Mediocre at best
Summary: 3 Stars

Being a long time fanatic of James Patterson, I couldn't WAIT for this book, especially when all the hype made it out to be an amazing love story. So, I rushed to Barnes and Noble, paid 30 dollars for the hardcover, got home and devoured it in a short time. I agree with the other reviews, the characters are funny and likeable and the story really did start out wonderfully. I found though, that the more I got into it, the more repetitive it became (there was a lot of emphasis that she was supposed to forget him throughout the book, but we learned (obviously) early on that wasn't the case) and for me it flew closely in some parts along the lines of the movie Drop Dead Fred. For someone who doesn't often read Patterson, it may be a really enjoyable read. For those of us who follow him closely (and have read his love stories) it seemed juvenille and ... well, fake.
