Book Reviews of SweetheartBook Review: I just didn't get it Summary: 3 Stars
I read Heartsick, after finding it in a clearance bin at Barnes and Noble. I thought it was an incredible book as was so excited that the sequel, Sweetheart was coming out in just a few weeks. I was however a little dissapointed in the direction of the characters, Archie in particular. I understand the trauma he suffered in the first book and the realization of the extent of his previous relationship with serial killer Gretchen, but their continued relationship just didn't make sense to me. The fact that he would rather be with her than his kids and wife, somehow the reasoning behind it just was not conveyed in the readings. I think he is a troubled man, and I hope by the next book he gets himself togeather. Overall, I liked the book and can't wait to see what happens next.
Book Review: not what I hoped for Summary: 3 Stars
Sweetheart continued on where Heartsick left off, and gave us more insight to Archie and Gretchen's relationship. There are several improbably silly situations, like Gretchen's escape, that lessen the story. We find out that Archie isn't the great guy everyone thought he was before his kidnapping. In fact, he ends up just being one of Gretchen's "male groupies," even though we kept hearing about Stockholm syndrome. By the end of the book, I was so tired of the characters, and wanted everyone to just realize how much Archie used everyone else to his benefit and their loss. Who would want to stay with a husband that valued the safety of a serial killer over the protection of his family? It's an ok read, but don't expect it to be as interesting as Heartsick.
Book Review: I HOPE THE WRITER READ REVIEWS FROM AMAZON.COM Summary: 2 Stars
I enjoyed the first book featuring Archie Sheridan from this writer but the second book made me want to slap Archie upside the head and finish him off myself. I knew he was obsessed, but this book made me realize just how weak and stupid he really is. I was hoping he would end his life as much as he was. We're suspose to belive that this man is on the police force, worked twelve years on one case, and he has to have pills every morning just to get started? I don't know of any police force that will give a junkie a gun and send them out to keep the streets safe. There are more interesting characters in this book and maybe the next story can revolve around them instead Gretchen Lowell and Archie Sheridan who are both two sick puppies!
Book Review: Transparent attempt to create a franchise Summary: 2 Stars
This book was addictive in spite of its flaws, but the deus ex machina ending just killed it for me. It was a blatent attempt to keep the cash cow of Heartsick going for at least one more book, logic be damned.
I was happy to suspend my disbelief for awhile as the events became more farfetched. But the resolution was so preposterous that I felt it was a waste of time and money because not a damn thing was resolved. (At least I got the book for 50% off). Just because you have a successful book doesn't mean you need to milk it for a zillion sequels. Please, just create new characters and start over, you did it once it can't be that hard.
Book Review: Nothing redeeming about this preposterous story Summary: 1 Stars
The first book by Chelsea Cain, "Heartsick," had an intriguing plot, and was almost sustainable through the whole book.
This one, however, is simply not believable, twisted, and unsatisfying. Skip this book; it goes for sleazy sensationalism, and in the process forgets to contain a logical story. Two disparate plots are told, neither concluding satisfactorily, leaving a farfetched disappointment. Character development is incomplete, and when time was spent on the character, as in the protagonist, it fails the credibility test.
My last by Cain.
