Book Reviews of SweetheartBook Review: One of the Best "Bad Guys" Ever! Summary: 5 Stars
Sweetheart, the sequel to Heartsick, is just as good as the first book! This book delves deeper into the relationship between Archie and Gretchen. Imagine being obsessed with the person that tortured and tried to kill you. So obsessed that it affects every single aspect of your life. This book was an amazing page turner. I started reading last night and only stopped because I had to. As soon as I got the opportunity, I picked the book back up and didn't stop until I finished. Gretchen Lowell is one of the most captivating "bad guys" I've ever read about.
Book Review: Huge Disappointment Summary: 1 Stars
Having been a big fan of Heartsick, I eagerly anticipated the follow-up. What a waste of time.
Endless descriptions of trivial activities bog down a weightless plot and whining characters. Do we really need page after page of shrewish reporter Susan looking for somewhere to smoke? Her mother doing nude yoga? None of this is as cute as Caine seems to think it is.
Slow moving, de-clawed characters, witless protagonist... sadly, the list is endless.
This follow up pales miserably next to Hearsick. Avoid.
Book Review: Love love loved it! Summary: 5 Stars
I can't say anything negative about this sequel except that I wish it was longer.
Loved it. And I really enjoy Cain's writing style! It's a strong, honest, and quirky narrative.
I read some earlier reviews....and I really think that Archie's character is fully developed and perhaps misunderstood by people wanting a more black/white or cut and dry story line.
Life is messy...and Archie shows that the act of death can be just as complicated.
Can't wait for book 3!
Book Review: Mediocre... Summary: 3 Stars
This sequel to "Heartsick" is well plotted and kept my interest. I couldn't love it though as there was not a character left to love. By the end of this installment every character is either annoying or pathetic. I suppose it's so well received by critics as you're left with a bleak feeling when all is said and done. While that often makes a book a critic's darling it simply leaves me feeling bleak. ;) I'm not giving up on Chelsea Cain, but I'm definately giving up on these characters.
Book Review: Awesome Thriller Summary: 5 Stars
I read Ms. Cain's book "Heartsick" purely by accident while waiting in the airport. I feel in love with these characters and was so sad when I had finished the book, only to find out that in a few short weeks "Sweetheart" was to be released. I purchased it the day it came out and again became completely enthralled with the story and the main players. How an author can get you to understand and almost like a serial killer is pure genius! I hope she writes a third!!!
