Book Review: well written but dull
Summary: 3 Stars
I love the way she writes, and was hoping for better way into the book, but this is like so for whitebread readers.
Not that I'm not one.
The "villains" are all underclass and underfunded, and the people you are supposed to like allwhite and all middle class.
The "villains" are poor renters, poor insurance cheaters, poor nurses and their arbitrarily repulsive low IQ children.
The heroes are unostentatious owners of million dollar houses they bought for nothing, with beautiful $125,000 paintings bought with equal
luck and waiting to be stolen by suspicious minority persons.
The worst is the villainess, Solana, who steals identities in a town of 85, 000 people successfully.
Really? And by being hostile to white folks in general, particularly a white lady with business cards as an insurance investigator?
When the Investigator's landlord and BFF next door is a rich old white man of great vigor and intelligence
who is also the BFF of her victim?
Plus the victim's niece and prospective heiress is a high wage businesswoman from New York, in the '80's, who has never
heard in that remote and hard to reach city with its inefficient news sources that California real estate is going up up up?
It seems to me that in real life with that kind of backup from the victim's friends Solana would have been shut down much quicker.
No need to rip her retarded son's arm off and chase her into a quick drowning death, like the movie end of The Bad Seed.
Without the lightning bolt.
If you're going to write reverse murder mysteries where we all know who did it, then the Colombo has to be given harder work than that,
and it would also be less smacking of prejudice against Hispanics and immigrants to make the villainess smarter and more plausible.
