Book Review: Zero stars. Superficial, non-critical "guide." Borrow from library if you don't have web access.

Much of the information from this "guide" is cut and pasted from the schools' brochures. How is that critical or thoughtful? There doesn't seem to be very much research if the authors speak to the head of the school and quote the head verbatim as part of the school's description. Some of the other research is namely gossip that one can overhear at a park or local cafe where parents congregate.
The authors described Pacific Oaks Children's School, AKA the Harvard of pre-schools, as poorly maintained. Did they know that the admission rate into the school was <10%, and that well-informed families wait for years on the waitlist to get into this school? Did the "guide" say that the children and families love the school and consider their time there as the best years of school? No, the "guide" doesn't know these things.
The reader can get more accurate information from the schools' websites than from the "guide" since there are frequently errors for deadlines and other details.
If you don't have internet access or a LA County map, then borrow the Whitney Guide from the library or a friend since it might be able to help you locate a private school nearby. But, please do your own research and do NOT rely on this book.
