Book Reviews of Tear Soup

Book Review: Tear Soup for Everyone
Summary: 5 Stars

This book was given to me shortly before our daughter passed away from brain cancer. I read it immediately and found it very comforting. About two months later I read it again. It took on an entirely different meaning to me this time. At first glance, the book looks like a child's book and it certainly would be good to use for a child, but it is by far one of the best books I've read on grief and is suited for adults. I've read it again and again and each time find the depth of the meaning of the story tugs at my heart while giving hope for the future. The story is well worded, careful not to mention specifics, as the book demonstrates that the tear soup can be made to help with any type of grief-- loss of job, loss of a loved one, divorce, etc. The illustrations are just beautiful, as is the book. We belong to a Hospice support group and we've given a copy of the book to the others in the group. The book really is a treasure for readers of all ages and would be appropriate for a younger child to be read to by an adult.

Book Review: One for our family's permanent library
Summary: 5 Stars

After reading the beautiful reviews on Amazon, I recently purchased Tear Soup for my 11-year old granddaughter when we knew the end was near for her aged dog. We gave her the book on the same day that her beloved pet died, and she has read it over and over again. She carries the book between her house and mine because it gives her comfort. This is a lovely story, well illustrated and clearly written about the feelings we experience when we face a big loss. While it empathizes with the raw feelings of fresh grief, it subtly and sensitively explains the stages of mourning and assures the reader that grieving is a process that we can get through in time. A psychologist friend is buying several copies for her office lending library because, although written for children, it is so beautifully done that adults will find great comfort in it. Since all of us face loss at one time or another, it is a good book to keep on hand. I recommend this book wholeheartedly for people of all ages.

Book Review: One book fits all! Grief, loss, disappointment, heartache-this book is for you.
Summary: 5 Stars

A friend shared this book with me and I was so moved I ordered five copies. I have given this book to dear friends that are grieving recent losses, and others that are still shattered by long ago losses. One of my friends often uses the reference that she needs to make a "small pot of soup" to measure the hurt she is feeling. This book gives permission to grieve and that it is different for each person, and therefore you must make your own tear soup. It is beautifully written and the illustrations are soothing and comforting. Many people are hurting on the inside for a variety of reasons and this book will speak to many different types of hurt-divorce, death, dishonesty, disablement. It is so beautiful. I plan to order more copies to have on hand should an opportunity to give it away present itself. It has been so well received by those that I care about. I highly recommend this book. I am a licensed therapist and I also plan to use this book in my work.

Book Review: A Gift for the suffering spirit
Summary: 5 Stars

I came across this book when doing research for a grief class. It arrived in the mail the day of my weekly phone call with my best friend. My husband died a year and a half ago, leaving me with two teenagers, and her daugther, my god daughter died very suddenly 4 months later. I opened the box and read the book to my friend. What a comforting gift for both of us! I bought a second copy to give to my daughter's middle school when a much loved teacher died very suddenly. I shared my book with my officemate, whose husband died in September. I shared my copy with a neighbor whose father died the week before Christmas. I gave a copy to my priest and his wife (a former hospice nurse). Each person has been touched by the deep truth of the spirit that is in this book.
I teach a perinatal grief class for nurses and this is by far the best, truest book on grief I have ever read, I will be sharing this for years to come.

Book Review: A Wonderful Pass-A-Long Book
Summary: 5 Stars

Grieving is such a strong emotion, whether or not we do it by crying loudly or silently sitting in our own little space and softly whimpering. This book helped me to realize that everything I am feeling since my mother passed away is something, someone, somewhere has felt before. The world has been revolving for years, but when it came my time to give up my mother, it felt like it should stop. My friend brought this book to me and read it aloud. While the tears flowed freely and so easily down my face, it felt like the words from this book were pouring out of my heart and onto the pages. Someone else knew what I was feeling!!!! I know only time can help heal such pain. I am thankful I have a friend who loved me enough to pass this book along and share it and her time with me. Friends and family are so very important. Share this book with someone who is going through the grieving process. It is a God-send.
