Book Reviews of Tear SoupBook Review: Excellent bereavement resource Summary: 5 Stars
I have distributed numerous copies of this book in my work with bereaved adults. I am a nurse researcher, educator, and a former parish nurse. The content of this book aptly addresses the individual journey of grief while also highlighting the need for self care and social support. Although it has cartoon type format with the illustrations it is not in the least condescending or minimizing of the grief experience. Bereaved people have shared with me that this book helped them to understand and accept their grieving in a more wholistic way, and that the book was a great source of comfort. In essence, the book does not preach or offer platitudes but instead assures a grieving individual of the normalcy of his/her bereavement process and additionally offers solid, practical suggestions for the healing journey.

Book Review: So Healing - Not Just for "Big" Grief Summary: 5 Stars
I discovered this book a few months after my best friend died in an unexpected and devastating manner. Her family doesn't live close to me and I felt like I was grieving her loss all alone. This beautiful book shares truth about loss and the process of dealing with it in our lives. I shared this book with a friend who lost her father and a very dear friend within 14 months. She loved it too and passed it on to another friend on the anniversary week of her teenage son's death.
I love that this book recognizes and validates: the less obvious reasons that people grieve, that everyone grieves differently, that grief comes in different sizes, and that we can revisit grief and loss.
A must have for every home library because everyone has loss in their life.
Book Review: Tear Soup for sadness recovery Summary: 5 Stars
When I was looking for books about grief recovery, I cam across this wonderful book. It is written in a children's format, but is interesting, engaging and helpful to adults as well. The illustrations lead the reader through a journey of collecting thoughts and memories in order to pass through the process of grief and letting go in order to return to some sense of normalcy in life. I highly recommend it as a way to deal with feelings of loss, disappointment and grief. I have purchased this book for several people who were struggling with loss, and I get lots of positive feedback about how it has helped people recognize and honor their feelings during a difficult time. Kudos to the authors & illustrator for their insight into the process of a healthy recovery from loss.
Book Review: Endearing Picture Book on the Grief-Process Summary: 5 Stars
Tear Soup is a wonderful picture book to share with a grieving friend or relative of any age. It explains the grieving process very well and does let the reader know that grief can be for any loss, whether it's a death of a pet , a family member, a job, a divorce, a miscarriage, and many more such losses. It explains that there is no timeline for grief to be over and that grief may well reappear at odd times or as anniversaries are faced. The illustrations are subtle and sweet. There is also a listing of support groups at the end which one may contact if more help is needed. It's just a wonderful book and needs to be on many more bookshelves, then pulled out and re-read as other losses occur. You're never too old for this picture book!
