Book Reviews of Tear SoupBook Review: Excellent book to give to friends who lose a loved one Summary: 5 Stars
I recently purchased this book for a family that I am very close to who lost a young child. They really appreciated it, commenting that receiving/reading this book is one of the very few good things that had happened since the tragedy. I even bought one for myself after hearing just how good it was, and a certainly agree with them. This book is really great, acknowledges that grief takes time and that there is not a "right" way to grieve, just your own way. It is not about making things better, but it does give comfort in how well it recognizes just how the grieving person feels. I will be buying this book in the future when other people I am close to suffer a loss.
Book Review: Perfect Gift for Anyone Suffering a Loss Summary: 5 Stars
This is an excellent book for anyone who is grieving, in simple storybook form with beautifully realistic illustrations. The picture book format makes you think it's for children, but the messages are really for adults of any age, and maybe for a few thoughtful children. After my husband died, it was the only book I received that I wanted to go back to again and again. At first I thought the rather dark illustrations would be too "moody" for children, but my six-year-old granddaughter liked it so much that I gave her my copy and ordered three more for other friends who have lost loved ones. The language is down-to-earth and the story will touch your heart.
Book Review: Tear Soup Summary: 5 Stars
A parent volunteer gave me this book to help my grandchildren when they were experiencing the illness and death of their paternal grandfather. The book gave such wonderful insight into the grieving process that I bought several copies to share with others when the need would arise. Little did I know that I would have 2 friends loose young sons within a few months. I have given away 6 copies within 6 months and everyone has been blessed by the insights. Another friend whose family owns funeral homes uses it there. The story itself offers such great insight, but the pictures and the extra advice in the back add so much that it can be read again and again.
Book Review: Great book for people of all ages confronted with loss Summary: 5 Stars
Many many years ago, one of my reading and report assignments in an English class was Elizabeth Kubler Ross's "On Death and Dying". That's kind of the gold standard for coming to terms with death and loss, but it's not a book a child could understand.
This book, on the other hand, seems to have been written with children as the main audience. The amazing thing about it, though, is that it works for people of all ages.
I'd especially recommend this book as a gift to a surviving family who just lost a spouse/parent, since it explains in subtle, yet very powerful terms how people can work their way through grief.
Book Review: A comfort book & for dealing with loss Summary: 5 Stars
Practical guidance for dealing with loss presented in an illustrated story form as though it were a children's book. Charming and helpful with comforting words and advice that helps well past the point when your acquaintances may begin to tire of your grief and mourning. This book gives you permission to grieve and also give you permission and guidance in going on with your life. This is a book for all ages.
There is a list of resources in the back for those dealing with different kinds of loss. Though they do not have a resource specifically for people who have lost someone in War they do have a large range of support groups etc.
