Book Review: Very Helpful...

I am a Marriage and Family Therapist who recently lost my beloved Mother. Her death was sudden and unexpected. I received this book as a gift to help me through my first birthday without my Mother. This book is absolutely tremendous in it's ability to address the truth of grief. This is a must have for both the bereaved and any professional who works with clients both young and old. I particularly enjoyed the way the book addressed the responses of the people around the bereaved--it was very healing and I will be purchasing several copies to give to people who have suffered a great loss.Book Review: Tear Soup is Excellent

Tear Soup is a must have for therapists and those who have suffered grief due to any loss. The illustrations say as much as the words. I am a counseling student and reading the book was part of an assignment. One week after completing the assignment, a co-worker suffered a great loss. Her niece and unborn child died two weeks apart. I gave the book to her & she wants to pass it on to other family members. She said the book truly helped her mother and feels it will help others in her large family. Get this book & read it several times. A new concept will emerge each time you read it.Book Review: grateful

Our school counselor showed me this book and asked what I thought of it, shortly after my Dad had passed away.
I so treasured it as a grieving tool that gave me permission to do as I needed to, in my own day to day, have to go back to work and function. Read it once a week!
Bought it for my sisters and my Mom and an extra with a friend in mind who was going to have her Dad pass shortly.
All appreciated the story, the artwork, the range of ages it can be read to and the occasions of loss.

Book Review: Wisdom & Healing in Tear Soup

Tear Soup is absolutely the best, most accessible book on the grief process that I have read. I buy copies in bulk to keep on hand because it applies to both adults and children so well. It validates any loss, from a pet dying to divorce and major tragedy. The illustrations and story line also help to validate feelings and explore the extent of the loss, from bad news to things people may think are more than they can bear. I also appreciate the resource links in the back. While there is life, there will always be loss, so I find this to be a timeless, thoughtfully crafted book!Book Review: Help for grievers

Even though this seems like a book for children, the insights were very helpful. There are several pages in the back that are reassuring and affirming as they detail emotions you may feel, hints of important things to do for yourself and specific suggestions for the person grieving or the friend who is trying to help. I found the book first in my church's library and then bought a copy to keep. The book points out that you can experience grief over many different things that occur in your life, i.e., loss of a pet, a job, marital problems, etc. The grieving stages are similar.
