Book Reviews of Ten Poems to Change Your LifeBook Review: An enchanting book that I will read over & over Summary: 5 Stars
I love poetry, and so does Roger Housden. He does not tell you what you should read in a poem, but he does offer some insights all the same. And hopefully, he will introduce you to some wonderful voices, and to poetry beyond the old English you were taught in Middle School. His essays are to be savored like good brandy, and to meditate, maybe journal, and reflect upon. Thank you, Roger.
Book Review: Read More and Be Inspired By these Great Books!!! Summary: 5 Stars
Can't get enough of visionary fiction? Neither can I! These are just a few titles that will inspire you: The Celestine Prophecy (James Redfield) ; The Butterfly (Jay Singh); The Monk who sold his Ferrari (Robin Sharma) ; The Alchemist (Paulo Coehlo); Chasing Rumi (Roger Housden). My favorite is by far and away THE ALCHEMIST! Go ahead...be inspired. Happy reading. Donald S. Buckland.
Book Review: Powerful selections Summary: 5 Stars
The poems chosen for this book and the elaborations that follow each are powerful and moving. I'm not particularly familiar with or knowledgeable about poetry so to have a more informed person choose 10 meaningful poems and to have them "hit the mark" for me is personally and intellectually illuminating.
Great book, lovely poetry and writing.
Book Review: 10 poems only? Summary: 3 Stars
The poems he selected have been admired and much loved through times, so it's not so different from searching for them online or having them in books written by their respective poets.
His input on the poems are superficial and self-absorbed. Does nothing for the readers.
Book Review: Trite Summary: 2 Stars
While the poems in this book are wonderful, the commentary by Housden is just too syrupy. I was expecting more of a discussion on the poems themselves rather than a look into the author's personal life. This book is more of an exposition of how these poems have meaning to the author.
