There are those who might not like the geeky references and the quirky humor of the online cartoon - obviously, this book is not for them.
Myself, I've been a daily UF-reader for years, so I decided immediately that I wanted to get this book.
I've been enjoying my purchase during the past few weeks, I think I've read through two years' worth of strips now. I should've realized from the product description, but at first I was a bit surprised by the physical quality of the book : it's a pretty large format, it's in hardback, and it's _heavy_. It feels more or less like a volume of a printed encyclopedia.
And why buy it when the whole cartoon archive can be found online ?
* There is an introduction of a few pages by Iliad, not too long and not too short, explaining how the strip originated, and some other trivia that I did find interesting to know.
* The book is formatted with a margin that contains Iliad's comments on many of the strips - makes it so much more interesting to read.
* Well, the website might go offline, or I might find myself without a Net connection at times, but I will always have this book ...
By the way, I call dibs on finding the first "bug" :
there's a duplicate cartoon printed on p.161, with two daemons bickering about the merits of OpenBSD vs. FreeBSD ... :-)

For over 10 years, UserFriendly.Org has been entertaining geeks of all stripes with a daily dose of humor, social commentary, and occasionally absurd observations about the world of technology. Loyal User Friendly fans "Ufies" have been asking for a Big Book of User Friendly that assembles the first decade of comics almost 4,000 individual strips in a single volume. Manning has teamed up with the folks at UserFriendly.Org to create exactly that!
The comics are presented in chronological order, so you not only see how User Friendly changed over the years, but you also get UF's twisted timeline of the last decade in geekdom. Several custom indexes let you find strips based on storylines, characters, and even the occasional UF song.
