Book Reviews of The 28-Day Cleansing Program

Book Review: I'm cooking for the first time...at 39 years old!
Summary: 5 Stars

I never thought I liked cooking...I DO! The recipes in this book are so simple and delicious that even I could do it. To be truthful, in my thirty nine years I've never cooked and now I am all the time. My son's favorite soup was McDougall's Split Pea for years, now...all he wants is my completely organic and fresh Potato Leek soup. He is eating Tempeh! Trying Hummus. He's TWELVE!

There are many typos and the recipes aren't as organized as I'd like being a newbie but I believe so much in this that I've completely overlooked that and adapted to it.

I changed all my habits from what I wash my body with, to how I wash my clothes. I was very tired the first 1-10 days...exactly as the book said 'may happen', and I broke out on my face(rare for me) but it was explained to me that both of those symptoms were normal as the toxins leave my body.

I am now energetic and happier and I love planning my meals and the satisfaction I get from knowing good foods and nothing processed, are going into my body. All I drink is water and green tea and I'm happy about that, thus far it hasn't gotten boring because feeling good is worth it.

This is the longest I've really stuck to anything dietary and I think it's because I'm not in it to lose weight but rather to eat right and the weight loss can come just from doing what we should be doing all along. It makes such sense to me that what we put into our bodies create the symptoms that we accept as normal..and then take a pill to squash nature's way of telling us what's wrong.

It's a shame our culture encourages such fast, easy, preservative-laden foods and basically makes it difficult to eat the right way. My eyes are opened, this is NOT A CULT/FAD diet. It's very real and sensible and DOABLE. Heck, if I can do it, anyone can.

Book Review: Excellent resource for someone who wants to be in control of their own health!
Summary: 5 Stars

I just finished the first 28 days of this wonderful cleanse and am going to continue with it. After suffering with eczema, allergies, and assorted digestive issues for 15 years (I am 28 years old) I grew tired of dermatologists and other doctors who just want to give me drugs and tell me to not use soap. I wanted to take charge of my own health. My boyfriend gave me this amazing book and its companion and said that it might be a good fit for me. The background information is excellent and in layman's terms that anyone can grasp and the recipes are great (as an avid cook, they are also very flexible to work with for those of us who hate to follow exact recipes and like to experiment). I strongly recommend this program for anyone suffering from conditions like mine, so many things I've been reading are showing a connection between diet, digestion, and skin, and it is silly to think that steroids and creams are going to make any lasting changes--changes must come from within! I am staying on this plan as my body is still detoxing (though at a much more manageable rate.) My skin is slowly becoming smoother, my digestion is much more regular and comfortable, I have lost 15 pounds, I had NO menstrual cramps during this cleanse, and I feel more in control of my own body and health. The program is not difficult if you are thinking long-range and have supportive people in your life. I recommend the companion book as well as the CDs that the author has as well, they are a good pick-me-up when you are in need of some inspiration during the cleanse and subsequent detoxing. If you are ready to really make a change, you will love the book!

Book Review: Grab yourself a buddy, and change your life
Summary: 5 Stars

My girlfriend showed me this book, and feeling slightly overwhelmed by the amount of changes that it demanded of our lives, we made a pact to help each other follow Scott's plan for 28 days. Four months later, I am a transformed woman. I needed the help of my friend for the first couple of weeks, but once I got going, Scott's approach to food became like second nature to me. Not to sound cliche, but this book has changed my life.

Without an alarm, I used to sleep until 11. I never sleep past 9 now. I wake up feeling ready for the day, not sluggish and sleepy like I used to. I haven't had a headache in months. My skin, after going through detox, has never been softer, or more healthy. Gross as this may be to put on a public forum, my elimination is better than it has ever been. I have not had this kind of mental clarity, inner joy, or lack of mood swings since I was 12 years old. I have more energy than ever, lost five pounds off a bootie that I thought I was stuck with for the rest of my life, and find that healthy food tastes 100 times better than any of the [...] like Doritos that I used to consider a treat.

My whole psychology about health, food, nutrition and eating has been transformed. His realistic approach, delicious recipes, practical steps to follow, and lay out make this book a fabulous choice for anyone wishing to take a more conscious approach to food.

Thank you for changing my life Scott. I said, "I'll give this guy control over my food & body for 28 days." and that was one of the best decisions I have made in a very long time.

Book Review: Big Energy, Little Effort
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm on day 16 of the cleanse right now and really feeling the effect on my energy levels. I used to get home from work and be ready to crash on the couch. Now, I can hardly sit still all day and get home ready to take on the world! It's really been a remarkable change.

I have been vegetarian (with some eggs and dairy) for many years, so adjusting to this eating plan has been less of a shift for me than for others. Still, I'm discovering many new ingredients and recipes that are so good I'll continue to eat them forever. (Even my husband, a committed carnivore has admitted that the Sweet Potato Chipotle Chili is one of the best things he's ever eaten--with or without meat.) With a little planning, it's definitely easy and economical to eat this way.

The emphasis on fermented foods and whole grains--and how to integrate them easily into my everyday diet--has been a very useful push in the right direction and one I'll definitely maintain in the long term. After having oat groats for breakfast, I can't see ever going back to a processed product. And the 100% sprouted grain breads are so delicious I don't miss "traditional" bread at all.

So, the long and short of this is that I feel great, I love the recipes, the plan makes sense--and I'm probably going to stick with at least 95% of it for the long term, not just the 28 days. (And I should note that I have many friends who have also tried the plan and ended up making it their long-term dietary strategy--not just a "cleanse" per se.)

Book Review: I'm "Normal" and it is working for me
Summary: 5 Stars

I began what I'll call a mini-cleanse, which amounted to focusing on significantly reducing dairy and processed foods and significantly increasing my water intake and fresh veggie and fruit consumption. And in 3.5 weeks my mood swings have decreased somewhat and I have lost 6 pounds - going from 135 to 129 (I am 5'6" so that's going from a range of size 8/10 down to 6/8).

Now, I know that weight loss isn't the thrust of this endeavor, and I didn't have it as a goal when I set out. However, it is a huge victory for me because I've always battled with my weight - especially those darn last 10lbs after having 3 kids!!!!

It really resonated with me in your book to do what you can instead of being a slave to it. I can see myself making healthy lifestyle changes instead of succombing to a "fad diet" just to be disappointed when I went back to eating lots of junk! I feel very confident that as I further journey into the food choices, juicing and other suggestions, that I'll continue to see benefits and at an ever faster and more noticeable rate.

In summation, I believe that what you are promoting is a wonderful thing. I would consider myself a "regular" person - not a health nut or hippie that likes to eat leaves and berries - and it's working for me.
