Book Reviews of The 5th Horseman (Women's Murder Club)Book Review: Entertaining, but not deep Summary: 4 Stars
I finally got around to reading The 5th Horseman by James Patterson. I had read one of his earlier books in the "Women's Murder Club" series and enjoyed it. This was similar... fast paced, short chapters, switching perspectives, and engaging text.
It was an entertaining story, but a bit far-fetched. I mean, it JUST HAPPENS that a serial killer is working in the same hospital as a physician who is trying to scam a few million dollars. And don't forget the mysterious car model murders, which make for a catchy story but... please! I mean, should SOME of this be based on reality?
My daughter said she was tired of this book, not from reading it, but from continuously restocking it at the bookstore. I can see why... it IS a well-written book, and I like those women's club "Members." Now if things would click this well between the police, the ME, the media, and the legal profession more often!
Book Review: Writing exercise??? Summary: 1 Stars
This was the most disappointing book by JP that I've read, and I've read most of them. I found myself wondering if this was a collaboration by the 2 authors where one would write one chapter, and the other the next. There are 333 pages in the book and 139 chapters.
Many chapters were less than 1 page in length. Chapter 43 (less than 1/2 page long) ends with "It was Joe", Chapter 44 starts with "Joe's arms were full of...".
I found myself more concerned with whether this was something the author's were doing for their own entertainment than for mine. It was more a string of events than a story. The book would state something like 'she felt terrified' rather than making me, the reader, empathize with the character and feel her being terrified.
If this was a students exercise it would be graded 'D' as a professional author's effort it warrants an 'F'
Book Review: Great Summary: 5 Stars
I dont know whats up with all the negative reviews over this novel. Some said it was stupid or not resolved or the chracter development blah blah blah.... huge amounts of suspense great twists as with any Patterson novel and even though the two storys were not linked give the man a break he isn't God. I mean scheesch i loved how he had two different stories, all coming out with fantastic results. I hope you ignore every negative review and pick this one up becasue it is definetely worth it. The last 230 pages i didn't even put down. it took me 2 hours but it was worth it another huge winner from the master himself. Another great thing about his Patterson is how short his chapters are it allows you to finish the book faster and it gets to the main point and climax of everyhting so that it literally never drags and keeps you interested throughout the entire story. Definetely my favorite author.
Book Review: WMC just keeps getting better!! Summary: 4 Stars
I found this book to be typical Patterson, which is why I bought it. He has a no-nonsense style that gets right to the point. His books are perfect for one that wants mysteries without all the frill. The WMC books continues in this style. The Patterson/Paetro combo seems to be a great one.
5th Horseman sees the development of Yuki Castellano as the newest Murder Club member. Lindsay continues to be the "star" of the club and we see more of her in this book.
The two stories are well developed. The courtroom scenes take what could have been a boring civil trial and makes one sit on the edge of their seat waiting to see what happens. The car girl murders are gripping and the murderers interesting.
Twists and turns all throughout. A must read for mystery lovers. Can't wait for No. 6 to see what this team will come up with for the girls to solve!
Book Review: This serie is getting worse each book... Summary: 2 Stars
I enjoyed the first 3 books of the Women's Murder Club. Didn't like too much the 4th (of July), but the 5th is just BAD ! What's the plot ? There is no plot ! 2 serial-killer stories try to share the pages of this not-such-a-page-turner, the 1st mystery (Car Girls) get solved mid-way throught the book and I bet plenty of readers won't remember it by the end of this painfull read... By trying to develop 2 stories, Patterson gets our interest for none. The most sad thing of all is that I used to like to Women's Murder Club members, but now they all seem so unreal, remote from anything actually likeable. And it's been the case since one of them died and another one joined the club, in the most stupid, artificial way really. Not much to save this book, it's even badly written. Don't know if Patterson thinks about writting a 6th, but don't count on me next time !
