Book Review: 80/10/10 Low fat, raw vegan it is!

I have owned the book since it first came out, having ordered it pre-publication, and have a nice hand-written comment by Dr. Graham in the
front of the book.

The 80/10/10 Diet is based upon living in harmony with Nature's design. As other reviewers have pointed out, Dr. Graham does an excellent job of explaining why that is so. Working (writing?) in combination with Laurie Masters' wonderful editing skills, the book is a true winner!

What may not be obvious from the title or from the other reviews is that this is a diet that works! Works for what? Works to allows the body to rebuild itself, cell by cell. Eating fruits and shoots (or whole, fresh, ripe, raw, organic or better...), in combination with the other 31 Fundamental Elements of Health, as outlined on p. 10, is a proven method of building Health.

And I loved the outright, upfront honesty of the statement describing this diet: "This radically different view is unpopular, because it does not generate any revenue. The 80/10/10 approach uses no repeat products, no supplements, no high-priced, elitist 'superfoods'. 80/10/10 uses a simple grocery-store approach to nutrition that brings this program easily into the grasp of everyone." (p.11) Works for me! and it has!

I see this book as an excellent investment in my health, and a grand addition to my health library.

Book Review: Call me chimpanzee Jane!

After suffering a debilitating car accident where a drunk driver crushed my Miata... and I walked away, alive... I spent months in physical therapy. I ended up with two crushed spinal disks and a host of other painful injuries. I spent a year in severe pain, a year in which I could barely walk, could barely sleep.

I tried everything - and I mean everything - to help alleviate the pain. Massage. Physical Therapy. Prescription Medication. Aspirin. Herbs. Yoga. Acupuncture. Nothing worked.

I somehow came across Dr. Doug's book and my life changed. I began eating all fresh raw fruits and vegetables in the proportions Dr. Doug recommends. My family laughed to see me make enormous smoothies of 10 bananas and entire heads of celery which I would slam down with relish.

I lost 35 pounds within six weeks. My skin is so smooth and clear. My eyes are incredibly bright. And my back pain? GONE. Gone. The raw foods reduced the amounts of inflammation in my body.

Dr. Doug explains that the road to health includes a very low fat vegan diet where only ten percent - or less - of your mails consist of fat. Making those foods raw increases the health benefits a hundred fold, too.

I feel amazing. I have a new lease on life. I am so grateful I came across this book here at amazon.com, and recommend it to anyone struggling with back pain or weight issues.

Book Review: Some Important Info For All Raw Fooders

I think this book has a lot of great info. Having been a raw fooder for about 2 years and never seeming to have enjoy many of the wonderful benefits many raw fooders crow about, I quietly wondered what I was missing. At times I had low energy, brain fog and pain in my right side in my liver/gallbladder area despite doing flushes. I went to a doctor to rule out gallstones. It turned out to be all the fat I was eating and the burden it was placing on my liver/gallbladder and body in general. I think raw fooders are becoming more hip to the fat issue but I often see people who are fairly new to it- a year or two- who have websites promoting raw foods as a means to make a living. They enthusiastically list recipes with lots and lots of fat and I know sooner or later their way of eating will catch up with them-at least it did me.

Putting 80-10-10 into practice has been a real challenge for me. I wish Dr. Graham would offer one of his workshops on preparing the food here on the the east coast - I think it would be really popular if he did. It would be priceless to me if I could have a weekend learning first hand and hands on and it could be what I need to really kick start this way of life. Books are wonderful but until you put something into practice you always sort of remain on the sidelines not really reaping the full potential of the knowledge you have gained.

Book Review: This is not your ordinary "diet" :-)

I do not have any affiliation to the author or companies involved. I don't profit by the sale of this book.

The title says "diet" in order to be marketable, but it is so far beyond that it's indescribable. Sure, it lays out a nutrition plan that will take your health, appearance, mental state, moods, fitness, etc. into the stratosphere, but it is not at all gimmicky or deprivation-based as most would associate with the word "diet". There's also no supplements, food bars, etc. that this book tries to rope you into buying.

It teaches amazingly profound science in totally understandable context to make it appear as obvious as it should be. The basis is a diet of "whole, fresh, ripe, raw, organic plant foods" eaten in a way to best align with your goals. It pinpoints the "bullseye" when it comes to nutrition, and will end the "dog chasing it's tale" lifelong process that most go through in order to find some very grand answers.

I bought this book here 1 and a half years ago and my life as made leaps and bounds ever since in nearly every aspect as a result.

I'm not going to elaborate further, because my words likely won't do justice to the book or author. I can't stress enough to read this if you are searching for ultimate health and happiness.

Book Review: Changes everything!

I am almost finished with the book but I have already tried 80/10/10 for a few weeks, having learned the basics.

I was a 100% raw eater for for about 7 months. Although raw was good for me I was still getting tired, had trouble taking off weight (actually put unwelcome weight on) , also my face wasn't showing the full benefits of eating raw.

Since trying Dr Grahams 80/10/10 I have had heaps more energy for consistent and vigorous exercise (best ever exercise endurance for me), a more optimistic mental state, I am taking great pleasure in my eating , the puffiness in my face and eyes is finally completely going and I am shedding the weight that I want to lose.

I also think I now have the 'glow' that raw eaters talk about too.

Lastly, I have less cravings to go off raw now.After months of being raw, I would have bouts of suddenly wanting and eating cooked foods or I would just binge on raw foods. The strength of that seems to be gone with this change.

I am still tweaking what to eat for me and how much.Overall though I do know this is working.Finally, my raw eating efforts are showing! I knew it made sense. I just had to find what worked for me.

I will add to this review when I am 80/10/10 even longer as to give it a fair review in the long term.
