Book Reviews of The 80/10/10 DietBook Review: The Right Track: 80-10-10 Summary: 4 Stars
The 80- 10 - 10 Diet book has lots of good information in it for those who are seeking the truth...not information that has come from the food industries designed to sell their processed foods.
As a health researcher for over 47 years...I found the book quite valid; except for the recipes. People want recipes...and unfortunately they have no idea that the wrong foods or ingredients can be deadly. Every person is bio-chemically unique - and by eating something which is not right for his/her unique system - illness can develop.
There were pages of food suggestions...and most of the foods may look healthy, but each person is different. People assume when they read a book that all the information in it is 100% valid. They need to use their heads and think...are these foods right for me? I do believe that the author said that the menus were just suggestions...but people might try following the food suggestions and wind up with problems.
Many people today have destroyed their organs by eating foods, which were not designed for human consumption. So many natural foods may trigger off problems in their bodies, because they are not healthy.
If people want to try the 80 10 10 diet...it is the right way to eat for the human species. However, if you try it...proceed slowly!
Book Review: The only one you need Summary: 5 Stars
I have certifiably read nearly every "raw food" book in existence. I've tried every version of the raw food diet and experiemented greatly. There is no way for me to put into words how enthusiastic I am to have found this book and to tell the world "This is the only one you need." I think to myself, wish I'd just found this one in the beginning! But it's alright, I've found it now and I tell others often.
One of the main reasons this particular book is so compelling is because it's realistic, scientific, theoretic, humble, human and practical all at the same time. You'll get everything from dietary guidelines and menus, to hard science and facts, to personal testimonies and FAQ's, to great useful data about specific foods. And most of all - you will finally understand why we MUST eat all raw foods, which foods are optimal, and how our bodies work. Dr. Graham has an amazing skill of taking a concept (lifestyle) that seems rather "strict" and making it into something that's actually ... the easiest thing you can possibly do. It's a mind shift, a society change, a choice.
Make the choice and read this book immediately, if not sooner!
Book Review: Writing this review after some reflection... Summary: 3 Stars
Let me admit that I haven't gone all raw nor have I tried this diet as recommended -- though I do eat more fruit now that I did before. The most persuasive part of this book are the testimonials and Dr. Graham's enthusiasm. But there is insufficient convincing evidence provided of why this diet of mostly fruits should work rather than other types of diets based upon complex carbohydrates. This book seems to be geared towards people who are high-fat raw foodist rather than your average vegetarian (who eats cooked food). I also didn't quite understand the author's luke warm (at best) reception to "superfoods". Finally, there is nothing that convinces me why this diet is superior to other healthful vegetarian diets out there. I read "The China Study" by Campbell and Campbell and there was much more statistical evidence provided regarding various diets successes and failures.
This being said, I would advise the reader that this diet is worth considering but definitely watch how your body reacts and go to www.vegsource.org to check out peoples' experiences with the diet.
Book Review: Excellent book, highly recommend Summary: 5 Stars
I stumbled upon this book after reading a blog by a woman who has lupus, as I do too. She was writing how she has been symptom free for over a year and credited this book with having accomplished that. While I briefly read into the 80/10/10, I thought the concept was a bit crazy. I used to go to the gym 5 days a week and was on the high protein diet to gain muscle.
The thing I like most about this book, is that it explains everything to you and in a way that makes sense. It's not just a boring "diet" book promising you a flatter tummy in three weeks or some other absurd claim. It is such a simple concept, eating fresh fruit and vegetables and eliminating processed foods, meats and such. I'm slowly working my way into this and I'm shocked at how much better I feel already. Of course when people hear what it is all about, they think it's crazy, until they read it. I cannot recommend this book enough to people. I'm glad I found it when I did and am hoping to lessen the severity of my lupus symptoms if not get rid of them all together.
Book Review: 80/10/10 IS THE MUST READ BOOK FOR YOUR HEALTH Summary: 5 Stars
This is a wonderful book. For Dr. Douglas Graham, it is a labor of love. As Dr. Graham was writing 80/10/10, he was thinking, not about how much money he would make, but of all of us who would benefit from reading it and by following the tenets of eating the way Nature intended us to eat.
I've been on Dr. Graham's 80/10/10 (sometimes described by its devotees as "811") for two weeks. The results are very encouraging. I've lost weight safely and comfortably. I look better, feel better, and I smell better (as in zero body odor).
If you have health issues, buy this book. If you are eating dairy, meat, or poultry, buy this book. If you are eating any processed foods (soda pop, pastries, bottled juices, candy bars, etc.), buy this book.
If improving the quality of your life is your goal, buy this book. Read every word from cover to cover. Take Dr. Graham's teachings to heart. Follow his guidelines and put them to work for you. I promise you that you'll be glad that you did.
