Book Reviews of The Annotated Pride and PrejudiceBook Review: Now I get it! Summary: 5 Stars
For years I have read books where the heroine was obsessed with Mr. Darcy of Pride and Prejudice. My friends loved the movie and so I finally decided to see what all the fuss was about and I loved it! I now understand the Mr. Darcy obsession. I loved this story, having the annotated version was a nice crutch but once I got going I didn't need the notes to understand but it was a nice touch to learn about the time that the book was written. This will go down as one of my all time favorites!
Book Review: Very fine accompaniment to the book Summary: 5 Stars
Many delightful and informative insights into the novel especially when referring to the social customs at the time that Jane Austen wrote this wonderful novel. And there are also some interesting insights into the main characters as well as references to what was happening in the world at the time of the novel. This is my second copy of the annotated version as I gave the first one to someone who loves this book as much as I do.
Book Review: If you knew Darcy like I know Darcy... Summary: 5 Stars
If, like me, you never quite got around to Jane Austen as a high school or college student, buy this book! It will delight. P&P is perhaps Austen's best work - it is certainly one of the most amusing, and the annotations make it exceedingly readable by any reasonably intelligent person, regardless of their knowledge of the period. Annotations can be ignored, if you wish, but they will add to your understanding and enjoyment.
Book Review: Excellent background information Summary: 5 Stars
The notes on the opposite page of teach page of the book are very helpful in understanding the exact meanings and the connotations of many words and phrases that were in use in the period when Jane Austen is writing. The historical background of that era and especially the explanation of the social and cultural life is very illuminating. I hesitated to get this edition of the book, and I am so glad that I did.
Book Review: Must Have for P&P Fans Summary: 5 Stars
After you've read Pride and Prejudice over and over, it is time to read this version. The annotated version provides key insights to life during the early 1800s as well as interpretation of antiquated phrases and references. I found it an excellent companion and gave me a new view of P&P with more assurance of the nuanaces that I might have missed before. I heartedly recommend it.
