Book Reviews of The Areas of My Expertise

Book Review: Makes-a-me-laugh
Summary: 4 Stars

Absurdly dry and funny. In a similar manner to his schtick on "The Daily Show," Hodgman throws facts into a blender with ludicrous tidbits from his imagination. As I was telling a friend recently, I now fear inclusion in Modern Jackass Magazine (see "This American Life") if and when I accidentally insert some of Hodgman's "facts" into casual conversation. If that happens, however, the consequence will have been worth the action.

Book Review: Screamingly Hilarious
Summary: 5 Stars

Probably the funniest book I have ever read. An almanac of absurdity, containing layer upon layer of dizzying silliness: Werewolf Info, Pigeon Deformities, History of Bad Haircuts. It was so much fun to read! It's worth it for the list of Hobo names alone!

I am shocked to find that anyone would give this book less than 4 stars! That makes no sense. I almost feel those people must have read a different book.

Book Review: light, fluffy, mildly amusing ...
Summary: 4 Stars

Fun and punchy near the front and back, bonded together with dull and silly filler in the middle. Much like an off-brand ice cream sandwich, and if bought used, costs almost the same amount. Full of surreally imaginative factoroids that turn and twist in upon them themselves becoming ultimately donut shaped and a favored treat among albino squirrels and carefully named and bearded homeless individuals along the east coast.

Book Review: Mildy amusing, but mostly dull...
Summary: 2 Stars

Bought the book based on JH's very funny peformances on the Daily Show, but found it dull. The introduction and personal background lead to high expectations, which are quickly dashed in a series of tedious charts and unfunny lists. 700 hobo names? Making fun of hockey hair? Please. You may find the occasional nugget, but each is buried in layers of tedium. Pass on this one.

Book Review: Hodgman is Funny
Summary: 3 Stars

I like Hodgman's humor and enjoyed this book quite a bit. I also would recommend Lloyd Dangle's latest book, "Troubletown Told You So: Comics That Could've Saved Us From this Mess."Troubletown Told You So: Comics that Could've Saved Us from this Mess
