Book Reviews of The Ashley Book of Knots

Book Review: Best Knot Book Available
Summary: 5 Stars

I personally know very little about knots and can only tie a square knot or a granny knot. This book was a birthday gift for my son who works on a tug boat. He wanted this book more than anything else in the world for its thoroughness. The book exceeded his expectation. Sure, you can find many other books about knots that are cheaper. But every once in a while it's nice to buy something that is the best at what it does - this book is the best book about knots available.

Book Review: knot kidding.
Summary: 5 Stars

This book has to represent the best value on the market today for anyone interested in knots, splices and fancy ropework. I worked in the Merchant Navy and have spent most of my life living on and around yachts, and I sincerely wish that I'd discovered this book 35 years ago. The Ashley Book of Knots is a treasure trove of useful information and instruction for anyone, from novice to expert, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Jim Briggs. Gold Coast, Australia.

Book Review: Ashley Book of Knots
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a comprehensive text for teaching all manners of rope/twine/line manipulation. This book illustrates the tying and application of thousands of different knots for marine rigging, decoration, lifting, fishing and hundreds more purposes including how to tie a necktie.

This book was written in 1944 and should not be considered an up to date resource for the stream bound fisherman.

A PERFECT COFFEE TABLE BOOK FOR THE FISHERMAN.

Book Review: The "Bible" for ropework and knotting...
Summary: 5 Stars

Hands down, if you're into knots, rope work, sailing, etc...this is definitely a book to add to your shelf. Over 600 pages, it's got pretty much references to every knot you could think of, as well as a good history on rope and knots, and a great index to quickly find what you need. I've even found most other books or online resources I look at reference the "Ashley Book of Knots" number (ABOK#) when they're describing what to do. All in all a good investment.

Book Review: Ashley's Knots
Summary: 5 Stars

A review on the Web stated that this book is 'the bible of knots'. You can believe it. At first the book's illustrations appear confusing, but with a little study and cross referencing inside the book, you should see rapid improvement in your ability to grasp the author's solutions. If a certain variation still proves difficult, you can always go to a link on the web where some links provide color-coded versions for Ashley's knots.
