... This book is indeed the Bible of knots and ropework. It's entertaining and darn near comprehensive. It's an older book, so it doesn't have a couple of the more modern knots, such as the Zeppelin Bend, and the Gripping Sailor's Hitch. But that's ok! Just do an internet Google search for them, print them out and tape them in the extra pages of the book. If you do that, you'll never need to buy another knot book ever!Book Review: Very Comprehensive

This book is considered by many to be THE reference for knots. Most professional Navy Boatswains Mates I know own this book and use it regularly. Although the instructions can be difficult to follow for the beginner, there is enough material to keep the decorative knot-tier going for a long time. The background material is interesting as well. This book is an excellent resource for knot tying and also explaining, as the knot number or the page number can be used to identify a knot anyplace in the world, regardless of the local name. I have found it to be very useful on the many overseas cruises I have made. I would recommend it to anybody who has a need or interest in knot tying. This is without a doubt one of the most complete compendium of knots and how to tie them in print. The illustrations are great and instructions easy to follow. There is a great section on occupational knots that opens the history and use of knots to those of us curious as to where we came from. This book is well worth the investment for those who have the need and is a great read in and of itself.Book Review: The Best Knot Book

This book is the gold standard for knots. I could write a long review, but others have already given details. All I would add is that over several decades it is the book I turn to for any information or directions for knots, plaits, buttons, etc. It is all there in easy to follow format and with all variations. There are many other books available, but if you have this one you need no other.
