Book Reviews of The BFGBook Review: Awesome Book Summary: 5 Stars
I have always loved Roald Dahl's amazing stories, and this one was just as good as his others. I love the typical Dahlian nonsensical words that aren't fully nonsensical (my favorites being `babblement' and `catasterous disastrophe'). The book is written in a very child-friendly way, but can be enjoyed by all ages. Another particular part I liked was the theory about age, that humans are technically only half their given age, since half of our lives are pretty much slept away. It makes perfect sense to me! I highly enjoyed the insertion of Jack and the Beanstalk into the story, and really the whole societal structure of the giants. I'm pretty sure this is the first book we've read in this class that I've actually enjoyed the ending and thought it all turned out very well. I love how Dahl ties it all up with the BFG actually being the one telling the story, taking on the name of Roald Dahl from Dahl's Chickens (Charles Dickens). Adorable real-world tie-in. I suppose the only complain I have is that Sophie was somewhat a 2-D character, although this would allow a child reading the book to identify with her more.
Book Review: The BFG Summary: 5 Stars
`The BFG' is another simply delightful book from Roald Dahl. This follows the adventures of the orphan Sophie who sees the BFG one night as he blows dreams into children's bedrooms and is taken to live with him in his cave. They are surrounded by nasty, children eating giants and the rest of the book looks at how they capture them and rid the world of their tyranny. Although that is a brief snapshot of the storyline, this book has all of Dahl usual charm and imaginative writing that is a delight to immerse yourself in. From small touches, like the foul snozzcumber the BFG eats, to how the Queen builds a giant sized table when The BFG comes for breakfast, it is the details that make this story as rich and engaging as it is. There are wonderful illustrations from Quentin Blake throughout and these only add to the charm of the overall book. If you're a fan of Roald Dahl this shouldn't disappoint you and if you're new to his books then this a good first one to try. I also heartily recommend `Danny the Champion of the World'.
Book Review: The BFG Summary: 4 Stars
The BFG
By: Roald Dahl
The BFG book is about a girl named Sophie. She is captured by a giant during the witching hour. The giant takes her Giant country. She thinks the giant will eat her or something worse .When she discovers that the giant is the only one of his kind that doesn't eat human beings. Sophie and the giant will try to stop the giants from eating more human beings.
The BFG is very tall, he has very funny English an example is this:"Hi your majester".Sophie is a ten year old orphan girl. She is a very brave girl. She has blonde hair and uses glasses. Other important characters are the nine furious giants and the Queen of England.
This is a good book because it has lots of funny words like flushbunkling and others. I recommend this book for 10 and up. The book has a very good story and even better characters. The BFG says funny things like "you is barking at the wrong dog".
Book Review: Am I the only one? Summary: 1 Stars
I have tried, really I have, to like Road Dahl and what is referred to "classic literature," I have read the BFG and James and the Giant Peach with my kids. But I found myself editing as I went and I did not like all the dark underlying content. These are books for children, right? James' parents being killed by a rhino and then the awful cruelty of his aunts, and in the BFG the giants and their horrid names that eat children... am I the only one who sees a problem here?? No more for us. I really do not understand why these books are rated well. I really do not understand why they read the BFG in my son's second grade class either. These books are NOT for young kids and are depressing.

This review is written by my daughter:
It's a good book. I don't know Daddy, you write it. That wasn't part of the review! I'm serious Dad! Please! Just write it for me! I don't want to write this review. I don't know what to write. To everybody who is reading this review, my dad is typing it, and I want him to stop. Stop for serious, Dad. You can write it Dad. I want you to delete this review and you can start it again. I want you to delete what you just wrote because I want you to write it. Dad, I have a paper airplane with an edge and I'm going to poke your eye out if you don't delete this. With a sharp edge. With a pointy edge. Okay, Dad, I'm going to do it.
