Book Reviews of The Barefoot Contessa CookbookBook Review: PERFECT! Summary: 5 Stars
This is my most favorite cookbook --and I own about 80! Everything I have made using it has come out perfectly. All of her recipes are tried and true, coming from her own specialty shop in the Hamptons or from years of experience catering. Even someone new to the kitchen could make things perfectly using this cookbook. What I really love is that she uses fresh ingredients without too much fuss. My husband loves the pan-fried onion dip and her recipes for french onion soup and roast chicken have become my own kitchen staples. I also HIGHLY recommend her "Parties" cookbook which has menus already put together for you. I have used it for the past 2 Thanksgivings with much success --I had never made a whole turkey before, & using her recipe it came out PERFECTLY!! My Dad has requested that I make Thanksgiving dinner every year from now on! :)
Book Review: Wonderful "Hampton" mini-trip! Interestingly delicious! Summary: 5 Stars
Like other reviewers, I found some mistakes may be in the book...but, it is a book that perks up this cook! The pecan bar recipe overwhelms the pan described in the recipe. Overflow clean-up time must be added or adaptation is necessary! Jumbo eggs... Spinach pie in 6" skillet...and "non-stick" into oven?...I don't think so. I had to adapt this to better sized rectangle shaped pan. Good spinach filling improvement. Use walnuts instead of pine nuts for same result...with 2/3rds less cost. Hmmm. I pray the rest of you didn't run out and buy $35 filet mignon for the Beef Stew dish. It is worth a try with sirloin tip. In all recipes, arrange ingredients, FIRST...then begin. The clam bake was a disappointment. The televised version on MS was incredible. We want more photos, next time. Dried strawberries? Good Luck!!!
Book Review: My ultimate favorite cookbook Summary: 5 Stars
Ina Garten is truly my favorite. I have all her cookbooks and they have never let me down. This book has wonderful recipes for entertaining and family dinners. The pictures are amazing and I really appreciate the detailed/simple instructions. Her recipes are perfect for any palate, they're not super gourmet or betty crocker. She focuses on simplicity, freshness and quality..uses fresh produce, organic meats, good olive oil, fingerling potatoes, lobster, but nothing too extravagant. I always like to use her recipes to impress new guests or holiday parties. My favorites and must try are....pan fried onion dip, sun-dried tomato dip, cheddar corn chowder, baked virginia ham, indonesian ginger chicken, perfect roast chicken, roasted carrots, potato-fennel gratin, parmesan smashed potatoes, outrageous brownies, and pecan squares.
Book Review: She has a new book: Barefoot Contessa Parties! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this book and was immediately looking forward to the next book I knew Ina Garten would be writing. If you want to make a friend very happy, you could buy them both books and wrap them up for a wonderful gift.
While this cookbook is equally comfortable on the coffee table as it will be in the kitchen, I can tell you the recipes are wonderful. While it won't stay on the coffee table for long - you will want to read it from cover to cover.
I always love the fact that a cookbook has so much life energy poured into it. You will love both cookbooks. I just finished making the chicken chili in her second book: Barefoot Contessa Parties.
We have another winner! So, don't miss out on her second cookbook. I highly recommend both cookbooks.

Book Review: Ya Gotta Love Ina! Summary: 5 Stars
She really IS a "down to earth" chef & writer! I love her show, because she is so unaffected and sincere. To be honest, it took me awhile to warm up to her... but now, I feel like she's a friend.(Ina, if you're out there, I'd love an invite to one of your cozy dinners!) She gives you all the info you need to create the recipes in the book - not just the ingredients. She imparts a lot of great inside info on what to look for, and how to buy & prepare it, without getting too wordy. I don't know about you, but I dislike a lot of "text" in a cookbook. I want the main event: the RECIPES!!! And pictures of what they should look like! This book has gorgeous pictures & descriptions. I recommend this book to everyone looking for impressive, yet simple, entertaining ideas.
