Book Reviews of The Beach House: A NovelBook Review: So perfectly perfect Summary: 1 Stars
I just finished The Beach house by Jane Green... actually I thought the book was titled Jane Green based on the HUGE font size of her name on the front cover. This was a " saw it on the library shelf and why not give it a try" referral. I read and read - the introductions of the characters were so long and drawn out. I was waiting for something to happen until half way into the book when I realized that it was so perfectly structured that I could have finished writing the book for Ms Green. The characters have amazing talents that never came up till the moment they were set free, writers, gourmet cooks, etc. Fascinating to see the moth change into the butterfly in everyone and there was even a convenient death to tie up all the loose ends and leave everyone with enough money to never work again... where is this parallel universe? Glad it was a library book, spending cash on this would have been hard to take.
Book Review: This is no Jemima J Summary: 3 Stars
If you are like me, you became addicted to Jane Green after books like "Jemima J" and "Straight Talking." I don't know what happened but each book that comes out is just a little bit more boring than the one previous to it.
"The Beach House" was a standard predictable chick lit book, I've read so much better by her and other authors. The characters were ok, the plot was ok. The book was ok. Having been so disappointed by her latest books, she is no longer on my have to have as soon as a new book is released list of authors.
Book Review: Great Book! Summary: 5 Stars
I was at the beach last summer and realized I needed something to read. I went to a bookstore and this book was on one of the front tables. I bought it without looking at anything else because I thought, "I'm at the beach, so I might as well read a book about the beach." I began reading and I was instantly hooked. I could NOT put this book down. I finished it within a few days. The book goes back and forth between different couples and I found just that part exciting. The story is packed with drama and I highly recommend it. :]
Book Review: Fun Read! Summary: 5 Stars
I just had to write and say that I really am loving this book (after I read some of the horrible reviews, that I just don't understand where they came from? are we reading a different book?) I'm in love with Nantucket, I want to live there so bad, right in Nan's house:) I feel like I KNOW the characters personally, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it all ends up (I'm at the part where Evan has shown up....won't say anymore about it for those who have yet to read it!)
Book Review: Mind-Numbing Read Summary: 1 Stars
This entire book is a cliche. You won't be surprised or intrigued by a single outcome. It's written from various points of view, and yet every character's voice is exactly the same. At 200 pages in, you still won't be hooked. This is the kind of mindless read I recommend when you want a break from more complex and interesting novels. This is the kind of book you could take to the beach and accidentally leave there and never once wonder what happened to the characters.
