Book Reviews of The Beatles Complete Chord SongbookBook Review: Never Enough Time Summary: 5 Stars
There is never enough time to go through this book... The Beatles Complete Chord Songbook is probably the best addition to anyone's piano bench (though it will likely not be put away there) or guitar book shelf. Obviously, since it is a chord book, not a tablature book, you won't find how to play the intricates like "Blackbird" or "Here Comes the Sun," (I think it warns you of this in the foreword), nor will you find any notes on a staff. I actually prefer the guitar chord boxes even though I've been playing it on piano because it just saves paper and is easier to look at. It is so much fun to go through and play any song that I want to, and play it right. This book is perfect for sing-alongs, parties, &c. I love you Beatles!
Book Review: Complete, but not user friendly Summary: 3 Stars
This book IS complete, all the songs are here. The only problem is the binding of this book. It is almost impossible for anyone who is actually USING the book to play songs on the piano or guitar or any other musical instrument that requires two hands in the production of music. A spiral binding on this book would make it MUCH more user friendly. Then the book would stay open and not fall off of a music stand. I bought the book and a friend in the book binding business carefully removed the original binding and put it into a spiral binding. TA-DA, it is now actually a usable book of chords for musicians. If you are just gonna sit on your sofa and look at the chord/words and maybe sing the tunes, then I would give it 5 stars.
Book Review: Great basic Beatles book Summary: 4 Stars
This book won't help you if you don't already know how a song sounds, since it doesn't contain any musical notation. And, sometimes the chord selections seem a little odd, especially at first. But in reality, they are admirably accurate the vast majority of the time (I was humbled a couple of times when I listened back to the recording and realized the book was right, and I was wrong), and overall this book manages to balance simplicity with enough color to give a real sense of the songs. That means that more than any other book I've encountered, you can pick this up and dive right into playing the Beatles in a way that is really satisfying. Great for sing-alongs, except it doesn't stay open real well.
Book Review: Finally! Summary: 5 Stars
As a guitar beginner PLUS a Beatles fanatic, I have been searching for a book that will not only improve my playing but will also allow me to learn the songs that are so much an integral part of my life.... this is that book. A little melodramatic I know, but this is the only book that I've found that contains almost all of the Beatles' songs - from Love Me Do to The Long and Winding Road. It's got all the tunes that you'd expect plus it's got the ones you wouldn't: "Christmas Time is Here Again" , "That Means A Lot" are just a couple. Bottom line: if you love the Beatles and you want to learn how to play their songs on guitar - This Is The Book For You.
Book Review: great book... bad bindings Summary: 4 Stars
Just like some of the other comments. This is a great Beatles book, the only problem is that the small page format along with the almost 400 pg. makes it near impossiable to open the book to a page and have it stay open. I liked the book and way the songs were done so well that I found a solution for the binding problem. I went to a local office supply store and bought a smaller sized 2" 3 ring binder. Then took the book to a speedy print shop were I had them drill 3 holes in the book for the binder and then cut the binding off of the book. Total cost 9 bucks, but now I can open it to any song I want and it stays there. Still this is one of the better books I have bought.
