This is an excellent book for those that like both simple and gourmet cooking. The recipes are simple and easy to do, but gourmet like in taste. The only shortcoming is that he occasionally will use something not available at just any store - like Juniper Berries - where do you get those things? Mark Bittman is a magician. His recipes never fail. I'm a big fan of his unpretentious, practical style. I use this cookbook all the time and have given it as gifts as well. I would recommend it for advanced beginner home cooks who like a wide variety of foods and flavors.Book Review: inspiring!

Just what I needed to get me going again--in the kitchen, I mean. Bittman is always good and these international recipes are typical of his no-fuss approach. Although I have well over 300 cookbooks that I consult regularly this book is becoming my favorite. Just reading the book is an amazing educational experience but tasting the food is what truly joins us to people we may never be able to visit. This book is very large. Many recipes. Kinda hard to hold, due to the heaviness of book, however you will find very interesting recipes inside the cover.
Great buy. Enjoy. Sit down put your feet up and search for the recipes to suit your taste buds!
