Book Reviews of The Body Ecology Diet: Recovering Your Health and Rebuilding Your Immunity

Book Review: book will give you the health & radiance you want
Summary: 5 Stars

we americans need a diet change & this book tells how to do it step by step. i have gotten over the tipical american sugar addiction in just a month & i am enjoying eating more then ever- feeling satisfied & tons more energy & i have lost weight without being hungry. i take a bite of desert once a week & rarely want more than that. the first two weeks i felt a little overwhelmed trying to make the changes- than i just decided to do a few changes at a time & it became easy. i don't follow it 100 %- i do what's most important & doable to me. the one thing that was important was getting rid of the sugar & i was able to do that easily by getting the lakanto sweetner. i absolutely love it combined with cinnamon on toast- it is now my desert. it is pricey but not near as much as poor health.no, i am not getting paid - just telling my experience. the only thing that could have been put in that would be helpful is that eating foods on the high nutrient list such as kale, arugula etc would boast a persons energy instantly & curb cravings because of getting needed minerals naturally. i have chronic fatigue & candida & feel a great improvement already & feel given a bit more time these are going to be things of the past. i would recommend this book to everyone who wants to me healthy.

Book Review: Tremendous Gratitude for Transformative Information
Summary: 5 Stars

I learned of this book from Truth Calkins, a remarkable guy that healed himself using Body Ecology Diet priniciples. He is truly insightful and can be seen on YouTube.

The lifestyle changes recommended in the BED are not simply implemented by everyone. But with perserverence, the diet can truly transform your health, and therefore your life, for the better. It definately has for me. I work in a health food store and have recommended many of the BED principles to customers who have visited many doctors to no avail and are looking for something that really works. They not only feel the difference but express tremendous gratitude for this valuable information.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who has ever taken a course of antibiotics, suffers from fatigue or lack of energy for no apparent reason, dark under-eye circles possibly due to adrenal problems, among many other symptoms.

Additionally, I recommend David Webster's book, Achieve Maximum Health: Colon Flora the Missing Link in Immunity, Health & Longevity to anyone looking to dig deeper into establishing a healthy inner balance of microflora.

Never stop searching, and have the best day ever. Cheers to achieving radiant health!

Book Review: Understanding Eating
Summary: 4 Stars

I got this book trying to discover why I was tired all the time, why my bowels were so sluggish, why many things seemed to be 'going wrong' at just 45! This layout of information is very organized. There are a lot of 'different' bits that are actually very helpful! I cut back on meat (not out, just back)trying more of a variety (fish, chicken, white pork meat, different red meat cuts minimalizing the amounts); enlarged vegetables to 3/4 my plate - in vast varieties; increased liquids (mostly water with lemon or lime juice for flavor, different raw juices (no fructose corn syrup!). I learned about Kefir and added weekly smoothies. I learned how beneficial coconut water is! and added it. I did this 'diet' change even tho the rest of the family kept their American Diet. It IS possible! just takes determination to make the extra effort. And when they're ready, they might join in with me. But I'll be feeling better everyday regardless!

The final say on this book is this: it gives basic info in such a way, that if applied - even if just a little - will help bring the body back into its intended healthful state. All great things happen over Time. Be patient but determined to 'keep it up.'

Book Review: Great diet, bad science
Summary: 4 Stars

First of all, I want to say that I think this is overall a great diet and many people with health problems can benefit from it. It has some innovative components like the coconut kefir and good recipes.

Unfortunately, it doesn't have a lot of science behind it. The symptom list for candida is so long and varied that I would say nearly everyone with any problem would have it under BED criteria.

Candida is a controversial issue and there is little evidence it causes these things. I guess it's not a problem though, because the BED diet can help many conditions that would be misidentified as candida like essential fatty acid imbalance or leaky gut. I am also concerned that she recommends cleansing techniques like enemas and colonics that have no scientifically proven health benefits, but have been shown to disturb and displace beneficial gut flora that the diet purports to build!

Some things just seem arbitrary, like why lemons and not limes? Why almonds and not walnuts? Why black currants (a very strange choice) and not cranberries?

I have recommended this book to people, but only with the caveat that they do their own research on what Donna says.

Book Review: Great book to supplement your other Nutrition research
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this book based on a recommendation from a friend. I have been reading a number of books on nutrition in efforts to feel better. This book includes things that are being discussed in other books such as Ultra Metabolism. Avoid foods that can cause yeast growth, or other potentially allergic foods - wheat, dairy, sugar, yeast. While I liked the recipes in the book, and the overall concept of starchy vs. non-starchy foods and balancing them with proteins and grains. I was looking for that "master list" of foods that categorize them. This part was skimpy and placed throughout the book, making it difficult to find.

Also, the recommended diet plan was difficult to follow and incomplete. One cannot expect to completely change one's eating habits overnight a this book suggests that you do. Also, the recommendation that you need to buy their products isn't helpful. One needs a healthy eating plan that doesn't steer you away too drastically from your current eating plan.

This is a great book to continue learning about healthy eating and how what you eat affects how you feel. I'll keep the book and refer to it, but it won't be my food bible.
