Book Reviews of The Bone Garden: A NovelBook Review: A great read! Summary: 5 Stars
A great book that kept me hooked from the very first chapter and kept me guessing 'til the last! I could hardly put it down!
Though I'm not a fan of reading stories that (partly, in this case) take place in the past ... (somehow they quickly bore me cause it's hard to picture those times when you live in the 21st century) this one wasn't boring at all, but exciting! It was very interesting to read how medicine was practiced back then and how they dealt with things like childbed fever and amputations. Very cool!
The story is very well written, I love Tess Gerritsen's writing style. When reading her books, you feel like you get the inside scoop!
Book Review: Gerritsen could have done better Summary: 3 Stars
The Bone Garden is a good book. But if Gerritsen was going for Suspense she sorely missed the mark. While I really enjoyed the book especially the back and forth between 1830 and the present, I never really had a moment where I was seriously asking myself what was going to happen next, and I certainly never felt any fear for Rose, the Baby or anyone else in the book. When one of the main characters dies at the end I felt it was to predictable, but I say that only because she led into the situation so well, It seemed like the only outcome.
Overall I enjoyed the book and might even read it again.
Book Review: Good read!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This was a great book, very well written. It was the first time I had read or heard of this author. I will definetly read more of her work. I just loved this book, and how it went from the 1800's to the present. I was thoroughly entertained throughout. I finished it in quickly because I was so anxious to see what would happen to Rose next. It was a tear jerker for me at the end. I so wanted Rose and Norrie to live and love happily ever after. Sadly, it was not to be. Like life, you never know what is going to happen next. Good book, Tess. Thanks for writing it.
Book Review: Great Read! Summary: 5 Stars
I really enjoyed this book! Rose was a very compelling character. She gives you a glimpse into the life of the poor during the 1800's and helps us see how hard it was and what a miracle it was that more didn't die. This book also gives us a good picture of what medicine was like 200 hundred years ago and makes one greatful for the advancements in medicine we have today. I really enjoyed how Julia delved into the past to find out who Rose was, putting a person and a life with a name and Julia's search to find out who the bones in her backyard had once been.
Book Review: A different flavor from Gerritsen Summary: 5 Stars
Unlike the more common Rizzoli/Isles novels, this one has several bonuses - a brand new cast where we have no predetermined knowledge or prejudices; a pretty interesting flip/flop of the scenes from contemporary New England to Boston two hundred years ago; and a unique look at life in early America. The intricate details of medical care in the 1800s and the description of life in the different classes of society make this novel stand out.
