Book Reviews of The Book of Liz - Acting Edition

Book Review: Not Standard Sedaris Fare
Summary: 1 Stars

This 'pamphlet' (yes, 52 pages) is an Amy and David Sedaris "play". Comprised of four oddball characters in a small town (what else?), it's mildly funny. However, it is a drama production and reads as such. If you really want some funny stuff check out any of David Sedaris's books ("Barrel Fever", "Me Talk Pretty One Day"). If you're a big fan, you can't lose for $6.00 bucks, I suppose.

Book Review: not up to the typical sedaris level
Summary: 2 Stars

I totally love both Amy and David Sedaris, but I have to say this was very disappointing, I'm not even sure why they published this. It seems like it would be the kind of thing you would put together just for family members who were there, get it and love whatever you do because you are family. I would caution anyone else from purchasing this.

Book Review: Laughed so hard I cried
Summary: 5 Stars

I also saw this play performed and thought it was the funniest live theater I've ever seen. Though I agree that when reading a play you lose a lot (the energy of the performers and the audience reactions) I still think this one is worth having in your collection if you are a fan of either Sedaris.

Book Review: Good, but not David.
Summary: 3 Stars

This book is small, don't be fooled. It is way shorter than I expected, it is ONE short story, that's it. It has some funny moments but does not create the same sparks that David Sedaris creates in his text.

Book Review: Not what I expected
Summary: 2 Stars

I should have shopped more carefully - I just want to read everything David Sedaris has written. This is a 50-page play, which is entertaining and would be great, if it was longer and more detailed. It's super-condensed.
