The book-cassette adapter works well with earlier tapes that are marked book-cassette copy. You really cannot listen to these audiobooks without this adapter unless you can adjust the stereo balance on your stereo cassette play fully to left or right. This is because there is actually 4 sides to each of the two-sided cassettes. I did not realize this when I bought some used audiobooks. It is cheap and works well. You just have to press the adapter into the headphones spot on your tape player and then follow the tape's instructions as to when to connect your your head phones into the left or right (also A or B) slot. In the 1990s, Brillance produced cassette tape recordings of books with two audible tracks on each side of the cassette (two listening tracks A and B on one side of the cassette AND two audible tracks on the other (A and B)). By switching your book-cassette adapter to one or the other of two tracks of each side of the tape, you can listen to four recorded "sides" on one cassette tape. I am glad to say that I no longer need to use this device (Book-Cassette adapter) with newer Brillance books on cassette after 2002(?) as standard recording is back in production. Book-Cassette Adapter i purchased this item 21/06/10 i received it today it had taken 31days it makes you wonder if the postal service in Florida is run by Pony express, or pigeon post. i received an item from Arizona in 2days, so why is the service from Florida so poor?, i will make sure that if i do purchase for that firm again that it is not from your state of Florida if is i will go to firms in other states. The book cassette adapter was once carried by Radio Shack but no longer. My particular application demands that the right and left channels are split, so that audio cues from my daughter's augmentative communication program can be heard by her alone through an earphone (left channel), while the outputted selection goes to the speaker on the right channel.
Nothing else will work for this purpose. Thanks!

I purchased a book that had two tracts and without a tuning knob to allow you to differentiate between the two tracts, you heard both tracks going at the same time. I received this adapter and it was just the ticket. I was able to listen to one track at a time, as I was walking through the wooded trails of W.V.
