Book Reviews of The Bronze BowBook Review: I liked this book alot Summary: 5 Stars
I was assigned to read this is in 6th grade and was assigned again this year. I was immediately sucked into the story of headstrong Daniel, scholarly Joel, kind Thacia and fearful Leah. Daniel's thoughts and personality are described so convincingly and desriptively that even in his most foolish moments you find yourself pitying and understanding him. The story takes place around 31 A.D., while Jesus is preaching. A boy sworn to war and vengence finds himself drawn to the gentle teacher and soon reluctantly becomes the lone provider for his sister, Leah. She hasn't left the house in the last ten years and screams and cowers at the sight of neighbors. This story is excellent, it has adventure, action, betrayal, friendship, and even some faint hints of romance. If you haven't read this book, read it!
Book Review: Wow! Summary: 5 Stars
It really started as a novel study and when I first looked at this book I thought my teacher was out of her mind. I really like it though now. It's more or less about a guy named Daniel. He and his friends wanted to fight the Romans. You've got to keep in mind as you read that this was the time before the Romans took over all of the Jewish places. Well, Daniel met Jesus one day and when Jesus told him to love the Romans, he was split more or less in two. Not literally. YOu see, Daniel's parents had been killed by the Romans and that Daniel took a vow. Well, disaster stroke and his possessed sister, Leah got ill because Danial got mad at her. So, when Jesus came to heal her Daniel seemed pretty greatful... Oh! Just read the book. I can't exactly explain, but the book is wonderful. I mean it is so good!
Book Review: Educational but somewhat bland Summary: 3 Stars
I agree with the young reviewers. As an adult I was able to get throught this, but since I had purchased it for my 10 year old son, it soon became evident to me that this was way above his reading level, and social maturity for him to really be able to enjoy it or get much out of it. It seemed to have a really negative overtone since the main character was so negative and it ended abrubtly and a bit to neatly. The characters were not really well developed. It seemed more like a narration and although one could learn a little about Jewish culture from it, it was not a really enjoyable read. If you are a homeschooler looking for a book for your children, read the reviews by the children here, not the adults. Overall, most of the children here did not enjoy the book and found it difficult to read.
Book Review: Way better than The Witch of Blackbird Pond! Summary: 4 Stars
The author of this book, Elizabeth George Speare, also wrote The Witch of Blackbird Pond. Both of them won a Newberry Medal. This book is so much better than "Blackbird Pond". It kept my attention and I couldn't put it down! The book taught lessons of leadership, patience, care, and love. It wasn't a romantic book but it was more about loving the people that matter to you and also loving your enemies.I have recently been reading Tom Clancy novels that teach nothing of the sort but I found this book at a bookstore warehouse that was going out of business and I decided to give it a chance even though I didn't like my previous experience with the author. Everyone deserves a second chance, right? I am very glad that I chose to read this book and I think that you are missing out if you don't read it.
Book Review: Why Don't You Get It? Summary: 4 Stars
Those of you who are considering reading, or buying this book should get it from a library or a friend and try it out. You may not like it, but give it a shot first. Everyone has their own opinion or view on these type of books. If you do or don't like it, it doesn't matter. If you want to give your opinion, go ahead, but allow others to form their own and don't tell them whether they should read it or not. After reading several of these reviews I've found that people who are forced to read something, have short attention spans, or prefer short or action-packed books should avoid this one. Make sure to look at this book and judge it by how well it fulfills it purpose: harmless ENTERTAINMENT. Look at it with a mature objective view. I personally think its wonderful, but it depends on you. Bye!!
