Book Reviews of The Bronze Bow

Book Review: Excellent historical fiction for all ages
Summary: 5 Stars

Another excellent children's book by Elizabeth George Speare. I love how this book makes you feel as though you lived in the time of Christ. Very few books have the ability to place you in that time. It helps you to understand the conflict and turmoil during the time that Christ lived. And to understanding the kind of Savior the people were looking for. They wanted someone to save them from the Romans and the political issues of the time. They didn't understand that Christ had come to save them spiritually. Aside from that, this is an excellently written historical novel. Full of adventure and suspense, passion and emotion. And just a hint of a love story. Enough of everything to interest all ages. Our family loves this book and all of her other children's books.

Book Review: I think The Bronze Bow is interesting, intriguing and fast- paced. Read it!
Summary: 5 Stars

My favorite paragraph from this book is, Jesus says,"Samson did not give you vengeance. He gave you love. There is no greater love than that, that a man should lay down his life for his friend. Think, Daniel, can you repay such love with hate?"
The entire book, down to the last paragraph, is that good, and maybe even better. The story is about Daniel Bar Jamin, at around 22 A.D. Daniel lives in a city that is ruled by the Romans. He hates the Romans because they killed his parents. During the book, he meets Jesus of Nazareth, a wood carver who preaches to people about religion. Jesus tells Daniel that the Romans are just other people like him, but in helmets. They all have hardships. In the you have to read it to find out.

Book Review: I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH!
Summary: 5 Stars

The Bronze Bow was one of the best books I've ever read! I love this kind of historical fiction, including others like Johnny Tremain, Dragonwings, etc. This book was so gripping, I just could not put it down! I loved it! The characters were very interesting and the author's perspectives gave me a new view of Jesus and what life was like during the 1st century AD. It helped me understand Jesus more. Daniel's character changed for the better, and Leah really opened up and wanted to know more about Jesus. I also like the sub-plot about Joel and his sister Malthace, although I still wonder about Rosh and his band of thieves. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has an open and mature mind. It's not just for kids, but for adults, too.

Book Review: The Bronze Bow
Summary: 5 Stars

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book and was pleasently surprised to find it entertaining, enlightening and easy to read. The story was totally believable and was a good insight to the era the book was covering. I could see how a young person (Daniel, the main character) could have the thoughts and feelings that he had. I also found the story to enhance and perhaps explain the stories of life during the 1st century in Israel. This book was a good companion to reading the New Testament. As far as readable, betweeen being a good story and realtively easy to read, I finished it in 2 days (I'm not the fastest reader and I do have other responsibilities so that was impressive for me!) I really wanted to see how it worked out in the end.

Book Review: Paperback version falls apart
Summary: 5 Stars

I remembered this book from my childhood and am reading it to my 9 and 7 year old boys. They like it a lot! It has battles and danger - maybe a little more girl romance than they would like.

My caution is don't buy this paperback. I bought this book several years ago - it has been sitting on my bookshelves waiting for the right time. I opened it only to find pages literally falling it out of. Very poorly glued - it is this version. Right now, I have to reorder it - I will try a different version - because the last chapter has fallen out during the last two months of reading aloud - and pages have been lost.

I wish companies took more pride in the quality of their products!
