Book Review: Removing the Smoke & Mirrors

It was the book title that caught my eye, I do not read diet books because they are generally designed to feed the billion dollar diet industry and unnecessarily convoulted. The writing is simple direct and to the point.

This book breaks down long term sucessful weight management into it's two basic components so it is easy to understand and implement and does not require a hugh time commitment and over the top level of self discipline that few people can sustain.

The book explains that 70% of sucessfull weight management is "basic" healthy nutrition (not some diet with a name where you eat specific foods, who could do that forever) of which Jim provides plenty of examples and a grocery shopping list if you want it. The other 30% is uncomplicated strength training 3 days a week. The message is very short and focused, make this your routine and you will achieve your desired goals and maintain them. You will understand why 1 1/2 hours a week spent strength training will burn many more calories in the long run than hours a week on a stationary bike or stair stepper. The big added bonus, you will look better.
