Book Reviews of The Chase

Book Review: not up to Cussler standards
Summary: 1 Stars

Having read every Clive Cussler novel written (even the titles by other authors with him)and enjoying all of them, I was extremely disappointed and honestly a little shocked at how poorly this novel turned out. Boring plot that dragged most of the time, and above all else, I found myself not caring about any of the characters. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how it reads) I bought the next book (The Wrecker) in that series for my Kindle at the same time. I'm hoping I didn't make a big mistake but am not optimistic.

Book Review: Not your typical C.C. novel
Summary: 3 Stars

Mr. Cussler is best know for his Dirk Pitt novels and then Oregon files as well as Mr. Austin/Zavala novels. The Chase represents an extreme departure from what we are used to and it strays from the tried and true formula of what we expect from Mr. Cussler. While I applaud him for trying a new strategy for a character and a story line, I encourage him to stick to what has worked SO well in the past. I hate to squelch creativity but this new "hero" simply doesn't excite me as Mr. Pitt, Mr. Austin or Mr. Cabrillo.

Book Review: Cussler's best in years....and different from the rest
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of Clive Cussler's best books to date. Perhaps it is because it strays from the NUMA formula, and the predictable characters. Perhaps its because the books is steeped with well-researched historical fact. Perhaps its the fast pacing and fun "chase"....but overall, it's his most enjoyable books in years.

I couldn't put the book down -- well paced, fast-flowing, with interesting characters.

Sure, it feels like a rehash of a "Wild WIld West" episode -- but it's fabulous fun at that.

Book Review: Could Have Been Better
Summary: 2 Stars

This is the second Clive Cussler book I've read and I came away feeling the same way as the first one. It seems like his books are for readers ages 13-16. The Chase had a good story line but the dialogue is awful. I'm not quoting the book here but imagine something along the lines of; Good guy: "I'll get you if it's the last thing I do, you scoundrel!" Bad guy: "You'll never catch me, detective!". Very generic and predictable. I also felt the prologue ruined the rest of the book because it gave away the ending.

Book Review: Pleasant Surprise
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this book as a gift. When I read the excerpts of the book I thought it was going to be a dull and non-eventful. Boy was I wrong!

From the first page I was feverishly turning pages. In my opinion it was one of Cussler's best books. I have read all his other books and am eagerly awaiting Medusa in June.

I probably broke my record for I finished reading this book in just a few days. Great job, thanks.
