Book Review: Not all its cracked up to be

This is another example of "anyone can have an opinion, and anyone can write a book about it"; the next in a long line of titles by the same author aimed at debunking commonly held, scientifically proven medicine. The author clearly has an axe to grind with respect to the Big Pharma Co's, and takes every opportunity to slam them, and outright call them criminals.
It is chock full of references to the authors many other works, as well as recommendations to order natural products from a select few suppliers - kick-backs anyone? The book even arrives with a sample of the authors magic DeTox elixir, and an order form ... consumerism at its best, and its worst.
The book has so many references, literally HUNDREDS per chapter, that they become a distraction. Presumably, this was done in an attempt to sway the non-technical reader into believing the pseudo-science that is presented throughout the book. With all of the references used, the following is an interesting example of one of the many inflammatory comments which the author chose NOT to reference "Prescription drugs are the number one cause of death in the US." p.31. I have stopped taking this book seriously, and I now use it as comic relief - reading sections out loud to my wife and laughing at how whacked this stuff is, and how easily the general public can be taken hook-line-and-sinker when you use big words and talk with confidence. Unlike Cold Fusion, this work has the potential to seriously harm people by persuading them to walk away from the medications that are working for them and thousands of others.
Apply many large grains of salt, skip past the rhetoric, or save yourself some $$ and go elsewhere for your advice.
Summary of The Cholesterol Hoax
Cholesterol is not the biggest cause of heart disease nor is it predictive of heart disease. In fact, over half the folks who die of a heart attack never had high cholesterol. But they did have other warnings that could have saved their lives, had they been checked. And the cure for these is spelled out here via safe non-prescription nutrients. Cholesterol is merely the messenger, the smoke detector, alerting you to a curable problem. Why shoot the messenger with a drug when you can find the cause and cure once and for all?Medical Books
