Book Review: delayed reaction
Summary: 4 Stars

I could not put this book down, and I continue to think about the message long after I finished it. That's my definition of a good book. It is written so that a young adult can read it easily. It isn't 'hi-brow', however the message is important and universal. Everyone can relate to Eddie, because we all have regrets especially during the holidays. Great books don't have to be filled with heavy philosophy they just have to open the heart.

Book Review: VOICE SAYS BUY THIS
Summary: 1 Stars

In the wholly original spirit of THE CHRISTMAS BOX and THE CHRISTMAS JARS, here's another book in the classic subgenre of Christmas Noun books. Here's...ugh. Man.

Hey, here's a fun idea for you, why don't you read some real books? Maudlin, formulaic, seasonal Christmas-miracle tales shat out by far-right conservative talk show hosts: that's really the sort of stuff you want to read? That's the sort of "author" you want to support? Seriously, if this is the sort of crapped-out lameness you seek out to read, you might as well not even read books. Just watch TV and read PEOPLE Magazine. Books aren't for you. Learning's not your thing, evidently.

Just keep in mind, if you do decide to buy it, that Glenn Beck used to praise THE CHRISTMAS JARS, one of the shoddiest, most-thrown-together books I've ever encountered, as if THAT was some sort of literary miracle (just because it was written by a Mormon friend of his, probably), as if that was an ideal worth trying to reach. Oh, and he regularly urges his listeners--the ranks of which no doubt include YOU, since you're looking to get a copy of this book--to vote against giving homosexual couples the same civil rights as everyone else, and to ignore the consensus of scientists who insist that human-caused climate change is real and they have the evidence to prove it. Among other things.

It just saddens me that people will read this and probably incorporate it into some incredibly lame family tradition involving special sweaters. Your poor kids. I would have only contempt for such people, for you, the prospective reader, if I didn't also have some involuntary pity for you as well. Perhaps you can barely read, and you need especially simple books. Perhaps you just buy whatever the voices on the radio tell you to buy, and you just need something to skim while kicking back on your half of your Select Comfort bed, sucking on an Airborne herbal throat lozenge, and watching your six enormous dogs scarf down a huge bowl of Purina One in the corner of your bedroom.

Oh, someone's at the door! Hey, it's a Lobstergram! And what's this? Sean Hannity has even personally Hannitized your order! (And what does that even mean?!)

Go ahead. Get this book. Make yourself even lamer than I suspect you already are. Or: don't. Get a nonfiction book that will actually teach you something. Or a classic work of literature that will deepen you. Or something from a cutting-edge new writer that will shape the way you view the world.

Do that, and there might be hope for you yet. Otherwise...

Book Review: Wow!
Summary: 5 Stars

Thank you, Glenn Beck, for such an easy-to-read book with such a poignant message. The story is a great lesson on personal accountability - understanding that YOU are the only person who is in control of your happiness and that blaming others for your station in life will lead you nowhere. The need for forgiveness and understanding towards those we love resonates throughout the story. But most importantly, the reader is left with a realization that bad things in life happen but remaining "stuck" in the bad emotions is a self-inflicted sentence and that through faith and love there is truly a way out of the darkness.

I gave a copy to several of my family members for Christmas because I felt the message was so powerful and the healing potential was so great. The book is easy enough to read that even kids and teenagers can enjoy the story and understand the message. I feel that sharing this book provides a great way to lovingly reach out to someone who may be stuck in a negative emotional place or who harbors pent up anger towards others and will help to move them towards forgiveness and peace. Highly recommend!
