Book Review: Entertaining but ......

Loved NR's Seven Triology and thought to try another. I purchased "Circle Triology Box Set" and read the 3 books in 5 nights. It was entertaining and ok but JUST OK. So the Seven Triology could be a twin to the Circle. I suppose if I read the Circle when it was published (before Seven) I probably would have given it more credit but I just couldn't get over the duplication of the story line. I couldn't help but know what was gonna happen because it's basics were just like the previous set read.
7 - 3 guys/3 gals ------- O - same thing
7 - Good vs Evil ------- O - same thing
7 - 3 books combined- 6 main characters preparing and fighting the ultimate war ------- O - same thing
7 - each indivdual book- one particular man and woman falling for each other ------- O - same thing
Get the point? You can change the characters' names, lifestyles, Worlds even, but you still have the same story
7 - more believable, imaginable and probable, that's why I liked it more.
This trilogy was a little more far fetched. A sorcerer, witch, scholar, shapeshifter, fighter and vampire (twin to sorcerer) are brought together by Morrigan (Goddess) to fight Lilith, Queen of the Vamps.
They travel across Worlds to fight her and save their own Worlds and humanity. Overall lesson, if you have love, loyalty, happiness - you have more than the bad guys and you will triumph.
It was entertaining, I did laugh in parts and even cried towards the end. It held my interest and kept me occupied and a "real plus" - I didn't skim over anything (shocker to me!). Another plus -- Love the solitude and seduction of any vamp so Cian was my fav and probably what held my interest through the entire series.
What I didn't get - this story is being told by an old man sitting with his grandkids and great-grandkids around the hearth. Ok - so that's ok because it's actually part of the story. However, even with that end, I just couldn't get over the fact that Nora had him detailing the sex to the kids. During the read I would forget this guy was telling this story to kids until the end of a book and he'd say - ok, go get ready for bed....and I'd think, ok, that's pretty sick. It was "sex light" compared to other reads but still....
So, in the end - buy a used set or pick up at the library. It's entertaining but not riveting.
