My book club read this book and we're all in agreement .... it was just okay. It started out good, and fell flat around the middle of the story. It actually became rather boring .... I thought the book was very resourceful when it comes to Japanese culture. I just wonder if this book is really speaking about Crown Princess Masako; if so, I really have to respect and feel for her. You have to deal with much. God Bless Her!!Book Review: engaging and eye opening

I selected this for my book club and couldn't be happier. I was drawn into Haruko's life and the imperial world she inhabited. Many of the characters will stay with me, and my eyes were really opened to the cloistered life of Japan's royal family.Book Review: Wonderful read

Considering the subject matter I had low expectations, but this wonderfully written novel deals with a commoner's insertion into royalty with delicacy and grace, holding my interest from beginning to end. Highly recommended.
