Book Reviews of The Complete Illustrated Guide to JoineryBook Review: almost great Summary: 3 Stars
The book is rather idiosyncratically organized. It goes by joint family and then type, but there is overlap and gaps. For instance it doesn't mention Parsons joints and some of the joint descriptions are really lacking, like the locked miter (totally useless description).
Overall better than average with very good production values, but not comprehensive and IMHO poorly organized. The index is also less than great and some of the joint descriptions are at best sketchy to useless.
Book Review: This is ths only book you need on the subject!!!!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
If I was ever going to say one book comes as close to totally covering a subject this would be it. Then again I am an amateur - so maybe I am easily impressed? I just really enjoy difficult interesting projects that generally have little purpose other than my own pleasure. If this book has a fault it is in that it does not define the difficulty on some of the joints but, it is beautifully organized and about all you need other than a lot of patients and the right tools.
Book Review: joinery Summary: 1 Stars
I have purchased many woodworking books and this book written by gary rogowski is one of the worst books i have read. It is filled with numerous joints but little if any instructions as to how to put them into action. I was extremely disappointed. i gave it a ranking of 1 star only because it has identified many joints. Now i know all the names, i will just have to research another book as how to make them.
Book Review: This is a great reference book. Summary: 5 Stars
I have a number of woodworking books and each one shows how the author like to do joints and then gives you various "projects". This is great for the beginner, but what I need now is a reference book of all the joints and the various ways in which to make them. This book really fills that need. I think if you are just beyond the beginner and need a great reference, this is for you.
Book Review: Awesome Detail Summary: 5 Stars
The amount of detail that this book provides is awesome. It is as thick as a textbook, with lots of pictures for those of us who have forgotten most of our college education. But seriously, the amount of detail provided for each method of joinery is unmatched. There isn't another book I would rather have on this subject. I hope the publishers keep adding to this series!
