Book Review: The Complete Photo Guide to Sewing
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm a "plain-Jane" sewer. Singer The Complete Photo Guide to Sewing was a real help. If for no other reason than it shows all the "toys" that sewers can use! I looked at the pictures of these "toys" in use and made a list of the ones I wanted - and sewing has never been more fun!

If you have a timid streak like I do when it comes to trying new things, this book will empower and embolden you with ilustrations of just "how easy" making things can be! I've finished making all new curtains for my home, accent swags, capes, slacks, robes, gowns, blouses, and a host of mending - projects I might not have tried my hand at - if this book was any less inspiring.

I'd highly recommend this book to the beginner - hey, start things out the right way! The occasional sewer will certainly have their imagination stirred. And the pro might be well served to update their "toys" and techniques?

Hey, we all need books like this on the shelf. This one is worth the money.

Book Review: great sewing reference
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a relative beginner getting back into sewing. This book is a must have reference for all levels. Beginners such as myself may have a tough time learning the basics from this book as I believe it assumes you already know most of them. However, as a reference it is awesome and the pictures a great help. There is helpful advice on most any sewing topic from basic fabrics to tailoring, although it is not as in depth as a beginner might like or need. I definitely plan on growing in m my sewing skills with this book! I did also buy Sewing 101 and find it more useful for beginners, but it is not as comprehensive as the Singer book. Both books are great to have.

Book Review: Very Comprehensive
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this book to replace my old sewing reference book, a Singer book, circa 1975. I thought it was about time.

This book is a very good reference book. It has the general information in it that a sewer would be looking for. I am talking your basic stuff like on stitches, patterns, how-to's, even stitching buttons on.

I have been sewing nearly all my life, and I do have other specialized books, like for drapes, but this general reference is great for things you want to refresh your memory on. I would definitely recommend this book for the beginner as well.

Book Review: I haven't exactly become a sewer from reading it, but...
Summary: 5 Stars

I think I probably could become a sewer if I tried a few projects from patterns, with help from this book. It certainly helped explain a lot of things about how clothes are put together, which is useful from the point of view of a curious person who might want to purchase or maintain some. It was also useful for routine tasks, like sewing buttons on, or very small projects (like, say, curtains). The photos are helpful, and the instructions about as detailed as it gets without having someone there holding your hands.

Book Review: "Wonderful, especially for a beginner"
Summary: 5 Stars

I found the book to be very informative. I bought one for myself and as a gift for my 34 year old son. For the beginner like my son, you just can't go wrong with this book. It covers so much, like recommends and explains the tools you'll need, how to lay out a pattern; it even has projects to sew.I recently resumed my hobby of sewing and some things just don't change over the years. The photos help so much. I highly recommend this book. I had the books spiral bound at Kinkos making it so easy to lay flat.
