Book Reviews of The Dark Tower Boxed Set (Books 1-4)Book Review: The greatest story ever told Summary: 5 Stars
I read all these stories in the space of 6 mounts, i could not keep the books down for long, this is a story about a Gunslinger named Roland who is on a quest to get to a place called the dark tower and for all of those out there who are tower junkies you know once you have read this when you get to the ending you have to have more, to get to this tower though he has to complete tasks in frount of him, i highly suggest this series to everyone who is into good stories, has an imagination, likes fantansy/horror/westurns, this is steaphen king's masterpiece and anyone who reads it shold injoy it, because it is more intresting then anything you have ever read i loved all the books, the chacters in this book are all intresting and you get real emotion feeling like you know these characters and that you are with them, this is better then any movie i have ever watched and would be real surprised to find anything better in books better then thus story, Roland became my nuember 1 hero after this story and i just thank king for writing this because i have never had more fun reading which is a shame because books can be better then movies because you can use your imagination and actually see them in your head instead of see them on a tv, i hope this helped you pick this trust me you will not be dissapointed
Book Review: Caution: Will make you lose countless hours of sleep Summary: 5 Stars
This book series is simply amazing. Book after book King throws out a pure masterpiece. Harry Potter? LOTR? NO! Dark Tower whomps those series' as King manages to combine several fantasy worlds with the real world. King's past of creating very high suspense in his thrillers swirls in with unconventional-to-king genres such as western and fantasy(despite some fantasy attempts such as "eye of the dragon" which I do NOT recommend..)
The main character is very "clint eastwood"-ish. Every book in the series has some sort of climax which usually involve tons of violence, and that's not giving anything away as each book is also very deep and meaningful. You wont grab one of the books and think the whole thing is just a stepping stone to the next book, you'll be intensely fighting to stay awake to see what happens in the next book, or you'll be rushing to order the next one and be mad that it's not coming fast enough.
You might as well order them all now so that when you're done with "the waste lands" you don't have to wait a week for them to deliver the "Wolves of the calla".
Book Review: Unexpected (To Me) King Masterpiece!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I've been a fan of King since I was thirteen and hiding underneath the covers after reading Pet Cemetary. I'd read everything he's every written except Tower so.... I'm a late comer to The Dark Tower series. I would see them on the book stands and think....hummm not my thing. My sister got me the box set for Christmas of 06 and I thought well ok....I'll pick one up on a really boring day and just lob through it.
It was a fantastic surprise. I found hard to believe it was King at times writing this. Not that he is not a mastermind at fiction, but the depths of the characters and the story is just amazing. I found myself enthrawled to see where the story of Roland and his Ka-tet would unfold.
I am currently on book six and just can't wait to get to the last one. For anyone who is a King fan but doubting whether or not a 'fantasy' tale is one worth delving into.... I say please don't deprive yourself of this series a moment longer. I am a lifelong fan of the Tower without even reading the last installment :)
Book Review: Dark Tower Boxed Set Summary: 5 Stars
I only recently decided to enter the world of Stephen King's Dark Tower. This boxed set provided me with an excellent chance to do so.
The Dark Tower series is King's ultimate opus. It's a saga that entertains and constantly evolves with each book. In my opinion the series is a must read.
The set itself is a great introduction to the Dark Tower world. The first book is newly revised and exapanded. All these revisions make sense in the larger context of the series. All four of these books contain new introductions by Stephen King himself. Here he does a great job on introducing us to this wonderfully imaginative saga.
At a very affordable price, this box set is a must have. Each book has its own unique voice, and these four set up a strong foundation for the seven part saga. The overall presentation of the books is done well. A great pruchase for those looking to delve into the Dark Tower universe.
Book Review: Rather disappointing Summary: 3 Stars
I've read through the first two books and I have to say, it was a rather boring experience. I was recommended these by some online friends who said they were brilliant. The first book was rather drawn out; the main plot is based around the character's memories as he walks through a desert. It makes you feel like you've missed something the whole time. It made me feel like there should have been a book before the first and was a bit angry that he spent most the time focusing on the past than what was currently happening. Half of the second book revolves around the main character and one of the people he has 'drawn' into his world. It again was a dragged out narrative that seemed to go nowhere.
I dig King's descriptions of the events, but I would have liked to see the plot move faster. I haven't read all four books in the set, but I imagine much won't change.
