Book Review: myeh..okay I guess.

I personally liked all of the other Jack McDevitt books I have read. I'm not so keen on this one however. The only problem with Seeker that I had was the Mute plotline. Imagine the mute plotline from Seeker, with all it's "Human's Suck" and acceptance spiel, but repeated over and over again for 100 pages; that's the last 100 pages of "The Devil's Eye". It starts out interesting enough, with a famous author leaving Alex Benedict a ton of cash for no apparent reason and then getting a mindwipe. But after the mystery of that being resolved, the book gets dull, like McDevitt had no idea where to go with the plot. It doesn't even make that much sense, why the hell would she get a mindwipe? I thought she had her mind erased of what she discovered, and if she did know why didn't she just just tell them, rather than have them faff about clueless? The premise doesn't make much sense, and the replacement premise afterwards isn't all that interesting either. The mutes are McDevitts little pets, he loves them to death, no matter how boring they really are.
