Book Reviews of The Devil's Punchbowl: A Novel

Book Review: Another fabulous Iles book..read them in order!
Summary: 5 Stars

Greg Iles always keeps me entertained. I fully understand why it takes him so long to write a novel. Penn Cage, one of my favorite characters of Greg's book is in top form in this one as well.

However, it is difficult for me to listen to this book on CD in some spots being a lover of all animals. Let me say this...Michael Vick belongs in prison along with anyone else that finds dog fighting an entertaining sport. Better yet...they should be thrown to the dogs they've created.

The research by Iles is always impeccable and one of the reasons he's such a renowned author. Thanks Greg for another wonderful story. I only fear that much of it is true.

Book Review: Great Read
Summary: 5 Stars

Although I hate the subject of dogfighting as I am an animal rights activist from way back, this was another good read by Greg Iles. While some of his recent novels have not seemed to me to be up to his usual standard, this one definitely was.
I hate dogfighting, and I hope that this novel will alert some people to the horrors of it and turn their minds against it. If I could, I would find anyone who participates in it and subject them to what the dogs experience. It is a "game" which is against everything I know as a Christian. God did not want his animals treated this way.
Greg Iles is back to his original high quality with this one. A very good read.

Book Review: One of his best!
Summary: 4 Stars

I have read all of Greg Iles novels. This is one of his best to date. His last novel (Third Degree) was not one of my favourites, but he came back on form with this novel that kept me up at night... I just couldn't put it down. It was extremely graphic and at times I was a bit squeamish but in the end it was well written. I have one problem why I didn't give it 5 stars but 4 1/2, he mentioned something urgent his father had to tell him when he had a heart attack at the very last page of the book and then the book ended!!! What the hell!!! I can't deal with those kind of cliffhangers, I only expect them when I am watching TV or if the book is a series or something!

Book Review: What a great book
Summary: 5 Stars

I wont go over the books subject as too many already have. However,to those of you who said it was too long, i say it was well worth the extra pages. Most authors would make this into 2 books and sold both hardcovers for 25.00. If you read the acknowledgements you will understand that this book took on a life of its own for the author. Thats what creative writing is all about. Not what we expect , but what comes from the author. Kudo's to you Greg for an excellent page turner. As far as the violence goes, I dont think it was any worse than other books in this genre, brutal but true in so many instances.
Great job and incredible book.

Book Review: This book is not for everyone.
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is not for everyone and at times, I was a bit apprehensive to continue because of the description of human and animal cruelty in this novel. BUT, it is a good read and Mr. Iles's writing is top notch. It takes a lot for me to cringe while reading a novel, and this novel did just that. Yes, the topic of human trafficking and dog fighting is not for everyone but Mr. Iles put this book together and made it work. Bravo to Mr. Iles and can't wait till the next Penn Cage novel to come out. I own and have real all of Greg Iles novels and I am sure he will not disappoint.
