Book Reviews of The Diana Chronicles

Book Review: a somewhat derivative yet competent biography
Summary: 4 Stars

No, 'The Diana Chronicles' doesn't break any new ground on the telling of the life and death of Princess Diana. Most everything Tina Brown writes has been written before. But for people like me who haven't read previous works about Diana Spencer this book is a very good, concise telling of the very famous and troubled woman. And the author is a very gifted journalist. She remains generally objective throughout and doesn't pull the reader into the gutter with regards to Princess Diana's somewhat salacious relationships. However the author's overall disdain of British aristocracy shines through.

Bottom line: if you want to read only one biographical account of Princess Diana I think this book would be a prudent choice.

Book Review: diana's mind exposed
Summary: 4 Stars

this book is a COMPLETE assessment and description of diana's LIFE and PERSONALITY.
this book covers diana's life and death. since i do not want to critique diana's life,i will say this book is VERY complete and has interesting minute details(some details in the extreme).i do not find this to be a negative but,the narrative seems rather gossipy and tell-all. there are some black and white photos that are,so-so.once read, this is a difficult book to put down...sometimes i found myself wishing that diana's upbringing had been different and that fate had given her a more ordinary life, but then the world would never have been touched by diana and i believe that her life had reason regardless of her mistakes. diana will never be forgotten.

Book Review: author wastes your time
Summary: 1 Stars

It's pretty pathetic that the writer, Tina Brown, a businesswoman who unsuccessfully tried to launch a magazine called "Talk" that featured forgettable celebrities in its pages, has to clutch for greater glory by writing about Princess Diana. Perhaps Brown is by nature an opportunist who saw an opportunity to line her pockets with the gains from the death of a celebrity. Given her lack of genuine new reporting, it's hard to think otherwise. Perhaps she really cares about her subject, but it's doubtful, given her unmistakable disdain for Diana and all that she stood for. Brown sounds like a petty, forgotten runner-up for prom queen who only wishes she had the same substance as Diana.

Book Review: The Diana Chronicles
Summary: 4 Stars

I read this book shortly after reading Diana by Sarah Bradford, and it has much of the same information. However with every book I have read about Princess Diana, there are always a few details that I had not heard before, and each writer had a different way of telling the story. This book covers her life from her birth until her death. Tina Brown was not a close personal friend of Diana, but had met her and had lunch with her. It is very well researched, and the only thing I did not like was it only had a few black and white photos of Diana.

Book Review: Detailed Portrait
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an even handed, rich portrait of a very complicated young woman. I purchased the audio thinking it was a fluff piece I could listen to while working out, but found the book fascinating and was sorry when it was over. Tina Brown presents each of the major characters in this tragedy as multifaceted individuals, making this not the usual tabloid nonsense, but a sociological study of a very interesting and often self-destructive family.
